I always butter my toast then strap it face up to my cat, drop the cat on the floor and see which side up it lands.

I'm the same. It's got to be cold before getting buttered. I even stand it up so the slices lean against each other in a 'T' shape to ensure it doesn't go sweaty from the steam! The last bit is a must if you're intending to cut them into soldiers for your soft-boiled egg!

That's just plain wrong. You should not be allowed to eat toast.

Although I eat my toast warm, eating toast cold is an accepted culinary practice. Toast racks actually allow toast to cool evenly. Apparently posh folk preferred eating cold toast in peace (ie the servants left everything out and then they came in to eat) rather than having servants hovering about during breakfast.

Ooh no, red hot toast for me every time with dripping Lurpak. Did John Tickle too ever get that toaster out that was going to pop the second slice up around 20 seconds after, therefore, having 2 perfect slices? I've never seen one?

a schoolfriend used to bring about four rounds to school every day, she always used to share it out, and it did taste rather good, mind you we were probably ravenous

Actually, when I was growing up, the bakers days off meant there was no fresh bread available on either a Sunday or a Monday. And as we didn't have a fridge or freezer at the time, if we took a packed lunch at the start of the week, my mother used to give us sandwiches with the bread toasted.

Surely it will just spin in mid air, that's the formula for anti-grav.

That was the norm when I was growing up, as people tended to make toast with the grill, not with a toaster (indeed toast made in front of open fire was the ultimate way to go).

It is also recognised as a trait of the English in Sting's "Englishman in New York" of course.
