Agent Orange   11 #1 Posted January 3, 2008 Have ever received a present(s) over the festive period that you didn't want and which have done nothing more than serve as an addition to the clutter. If so, how have you dealt with this? Merely chucked the item(s) away which is pretty wasteful or donated the item(s) to a charity shop or other so that others can benefit for the said item(s)?  Just interested to know, cos over the years I have gathered some right weird and wonderful gifts and through guilt, have not had the guts to do anything with them. I think a big clear out is needed otherwise I will be swamped  AO.
 Share this content via...

EdnaKrabappe   14 #5 Posted January 3, 2008 Charity or if you know where it is from take it back. I'd rather someone have what they want rather than think of my money gathering dust.  Although someone bought me a really expensive looking statue a few years ago and it's in the cupboard. It's a statue of a child and i don't like ornaments nor do i have any children so why someone thinks i want a statue of a child.  I have a friend who used to buy me an ornament EVERY year... one christmas (when i had turned into a cantakerous old woman) she bought me a bozz eyed cat statue...I had two shelves which i lovingly termed the shelves of s***e which just contained all the stuff she'd given me over the years and in my clearout i'd just binned it all. I decided to say something. So i said i'm really sorry but i really don't like it, she was really shocked and i said whilst i'm on it, i really don't like ornaments at all they are just dust collectors. She said but i buy them for you as your place always looks so bare..... exactly!!!  I get a cd now or bath stuff lol.  I can't bear to give someone something i wouldn't use myself. I'm embarrassed to give it.
 Share this content via...

I'm going to collect all the assorted tat in the house and put it on its own special shelf, which will be henceforth known as the 'shelf of s***e' - excellent idea! Thanks! Then when they come crashing down and all the tat smashes you can have a celebration rather than berating yourself for knocking them off when you dust.
