I am constantly being told by foreigner's, from germany, france, and scandinavia that GREAT BRITAIN is the dirty man of europe. they say that people from overseas are cleaner than we are and they take their litter home with them instead of throwing it in the street. Correct me please if I am wrong, but when I travelled on the continent I saw just as much litter in other town's and cities.

I have been to Berlin where there is rubbish thrown down, Copenhagen in Denmark, the railway station there was full of litter, Rome, Florence, Sorrento in Italy, Isle of capri, Lake Garda, Spain, Italian Alps, anywhere Iv'e travelled there has been rubbish so what is this about us being the dirty man of Europe???

Admited we in this country are dirty as regard's litter and throwing it in the street, but the only one's??? I don't think so, some of these people from overseas seem to have ideas on everyone else but fail to see their own fault's!!!

We are also one of the highest producers of carbon dioxide gas in Europe and continue to pollute our seas with sewage.

No wonder! this is an island of approximately sixty million people increasing all the time, so we shall produce more gases of all kind's and we will dump more rubbish in the sea. Where else can we put it???

How much longer can this planet sustain such an onslaught? surely the answer lies in massive recycling and neutralising the poison's everyone on this earth produces.

There are already, six and a half billion soul's living on planet earth (at least) so as the population increases so will the poison. For too long government's have ignored this basic problem and action required immediately.

I wouldn't be supprised if Switzerland did pay us to take it. Europe treats us like something just wiped off it's shoe and the longer we stay away from Europe the better.

When do they plan on unconnecting us from France???

FRANCE TO FORM "NEW EUROPEAN UNION"
France announced today that it has decided to "rip up every bloody European Treaty and start again" by forming an entirely New European Union (NEU) consisting solely of itself.

The decision was made by President Jacques Chirac after a report by the French Government revealed that the EU was becoming overrun with foreigners "many of whom don't agree with the French." The report highlighted the original aims of the European Union that were clearly designed to support French interests, provide subsidies for French Farmers and "stop Germany repeatedly invading us"

France now feels that these ideals have been lost and many countries "expressing no gratitude whatsoever for all we've done for them" are now starting to show worrying signs of independence. The enlargement of the EU to include many poor Eastern European countries causes France particular concern, especially their "greedy and unjustifiable" demands for agricultural subsidies which "properly belong to the people of France".

It is believed that the recent letter of support for the US from many European countries including the UK, Spain, the Czech Republic and Italy was the final straw prompting accusations of the Americanisation of Europe. "When these minor league no-hopers align themselves with an autocratic, imperious, selfish country that thinks only of itself instead of France, it is clear things have gone too far. Their childish and juvenile behaviour marks them out as petulant and infantile," Mr Chirac exclaimed, after angrily storming out of the latest EU meeting, slamming the door and refusing to come back in unless everybody agreed to "play by his rules." When the other countries refused, Mr Chirac employed other diplomatic tactics including holding his breath until he went "bright red", screaming and screaming until he was sick and rolling around and beating his fists on the floor. When these also failed he then announced the formation of the NEU.

The French are only including themselves in the initial membership of the NEU and are expected to maintain control of all of the decision making bodies and writing all of the treaties, however it is thought to be keen to invite other countries to join in the not too distant future. The countries will be expected to meet rigorous selection criteria including "speaking French, hating America and capitulating to every last one of our demands." However, France has promised that its foreign policy will not be tied down by what bit calls the "outmoded and judgmental promotion of democracy".

Instead, Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Prime Minister of France, claimed that France will use the NEU for "promoting the ideals for which France is justly famous. Liberty to sell arms to whomever we like, fraternity with all people of the world as long as you take our agricultural products and we don't have to take yours and equality for all French speakers." In return, it is expected that France will offer a combination of goods and services including access to exceptionally cheap wine, cut-price Nuclear power stations and some of the "best security information NATO has to offer"

Of course you did.

When in Germany I am always impressed by the lack of litter and dirt and I have seen all types of people, not just 'chavs' dropping litter, emptying car ashtrays, leaving sofas, cookers, cars and even a meat carcass on pavements.

"its the councils responsibility" I am told by people who no doubt wave flags and class themselves as patriotic but have no respect for their own streets.

Disillusioned - You've got it right! As a past resident of France and still a frequent visitor I have seen this attitude in the French at first hand. They ARE Europe a french friend told me! A good point though - they do collect the refuse EVERY DAY - no stinking, two-week old wheely bins full there - but you do have to mind the piles of dog poo on the pavements!
