Children suffer racism too so this will be helping children as well. Their are too many people in this world who want to use other peoples skin colour to victimise and harass them. If the sale of these wrist bands is a way of challenging this racism and discrimination, through giving people an opportunity to express openly their opposition to racists then I see that as being extremely worthwhile.
Just like the Clash used the Rock against racism to make sure music couldn't be used as tool for societies most disgusting elements, perhaps football can adopt schemes such as this to ensure that their sport is not seen as vehicle for the terrible behaviour in Madrid last year.
Perhaps if you has suffered the racist abuse the footballers behind this had, you might feel differently about it and appreciate it’s validity.

I'm white, british and have never been called a rascist in my life.
I find people who have been, or are sensitive to being called rascist usually are.
All this wristband craze started off last summer when current 6 X Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong and his cancer charity www.laf.org along with Nike started selling yellow LiveStrong wristbands to raise money for his cancer foundation.
And now alot of people have jumped on the bandwagon bringing there own colour of wristband out.
Thing that does annoy me abit with theses yellow ones, i wear one but alot of people want one just beacuse they saw a celebrity on the telly with one have have no idea what the wristband stands for and what it is trying to achieve.

Okey-dokey..I'll say it if nobody else will own up. I wear a livestrong wristband too. And its not about shouting to the world that I have donated to charity - because that is more vulgar than it's intended use. IT IS a fashion accessory. It may be a fashion accessory that gives me a feeling of "i helped something", more than my Nicole Fahri trousers did - but it's still just that.
The LiveStrong wristband has become a fashion item at the moment. Not sure if thats a good or bad thing but it has raised the profile of the LAF and Lance Armstrong to the non cycling world.
But i do get the feeling some people wear them to say look at me ive donated to charity. I have my own reasons for wearing mine and its nothing to do with fashion or to draw attension to the fact ive donated to charity. I will still be wearing mine in 10yrs time
Originally posted by nick2 It just seems wrong to me, paying £1 for a charity item, then flogging it for £10 on Ebay and keeping all the money, I would feel guilty.
That might be the case but when I’ve looked on Ebay at them the ones going at £10 and above are for multiple lots. The singular yellow ones are going for about £1- £4 which I no is still over and is absolutely disgusting but its not as much as it appears.
The bullying bands however I have seen go for £25 when just a few months ago radio one was giving them for free. People who are buying these are people who are desperate for a bit of fashion.
A lot of people at my college have one, and I would say 70% of them don't know what they are for.
I hadn't heard about these "live strong bands" until about a month ago? A few girls in my lessons wear bright pink "livestrong" bands are these genuine or are these the ones that others are scamming people with?
I wear a bullying band, which I ordered from Radio 1 when they started their campaign however many months ago before these bands became "the big thing"
What I find really remarkable is I wear a bully band because I suffered years and years of bullying but now I see the people that bullied me in secondary school wearing them. The bullies wearing the "beat bullies" band??!?!?!?!

I agree with this 100%, the blue bullying band will stay on till it falls off. Whether its "fashionable" or not!
There are alot of fake wristbands about in all sorts of colours. Someone told me there was a shop somewhere around the bottom of the moor selling fake ones.
Genuine LiveStrong writsbands only come in yellow and have the word livestrong stamped into it any other colour with livestong on it are fakes.
Info on theses bands at nike . com / wearyellow or laf . org
I was brought up in a couple of well known black areas of Sheffield & Sheffield is one of the friendly cities of UK & I don't know any blacks or Pakistanis that aren't racist & I guarantee you you wont see any of them wasting money on the wrist bands not unless they are over paid footballers or over friendly people.
It sounds like a good idea these black and white bands, but what do they do with the money raised from the sale of these black and white bands. I can understand with the Lance Armstrong yellow ones as the money goes to cancer research. Maybe the money goes towards trying to educate people who knows, you could raise millions and millions of pounds but if someone wants to make monkey chants and throw bananas at a football match there going too regardless of if some footballers have a black and white band on.

Actualy I'm beginning to think sheffield isn't one of the most friendly places given the fact that 1 in 3 threads has a rascist or sexist element present. In fact I suspect it's people like yourself that keep Sheffield back from being a "proper city", and for that I'm glad my days here are numbered.
Try poking your nose out of your own community and see that in succesfull cities, people are more interested in bettering themselves than running others down.
(I do note the majority disagree with rascist / sexist remarks made).

the truth or Your truth?...
To back up your statement as a truth as you put it, you will need to know a reasonable sample of black and asian people, have known them enough to assess them as being rascist and for this to count for every one of those individuals.
I think you'll agree that's somewhere short of likely. And as such is a sweeping rascist statement itself. I suspect your like others and are utterly ignorant of different cultures and probably read rascism into those that don't have it. I'm not saying that rascism does not exist within ethnic minorities, but statements like yours are an unhelpfull and unpalatable exauguration.

Christ! Are you back again? What time do your lessons start this morning?
The wristbands were brought out because of the racist chanting that has been going on in football recently. In that situation the chants have only been aimed at black players.
