I think there's a problem with my sound card / driver. Every so often when i click mouse (usually in internet explorer or itunes) a loud buzzing sound comes from all speakers. So i immediately turn off the speakers, and when i turn them back on there is no sound for approx 30-40 seconds, but also an mp3 track will not play (while sound is muted) until the sound comes back on.

I'm running windows vista 32bit with soundblaster x-fi sound card.
Ive searched for latest driver in the device manager but it says i'm using the current driver.

I have the same problem. It's most likely an IRQ conflict between the sound card and a device like USB ports.

The best solution is to move the card from its current slot to one where its IRQ isn't shared with another device. The motherboard manual for you PC will tell you if there is one.

Other than that the best work-around I have found is to switch the X-Fi sound mode. I normally have mine in gaming mode. Switching it music mode, then back to gaming mode fixes the high-pitched squealing.
