A Group idea was discussed at the meal meeting today for a weekend away in May next year. What was suggested was that it would be an idea to have a go at the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, but not to try and kill ourselves by doing it in the day, but to have a go at doing it over 3 days.
Although this may seem a bit daunting to some of the regular "strollers" who turn up every Sunday, there are options for easier walks once we are there, or as was suggested by one person who will remain nameless "Some of us could even go shopping" Quite
Anyway, I've started this thread to try and gauge what interest there might be for doing something like this, and to ask for suggestions regarding where we could stay, and for how long.
As it would probably have to take place over a Bank Holiday weekend, due to some people having to have school holidays for their vacations, we will need to sort something out sooner rather than later, so let's hear some opinions guys, positive or not!

Just looked at the link, Scoobz. Looks promising. I really need to get my fitness levels up though. Oh and get Mr L off crutches!

How many miles a day roughly would it involve? If I can build my fitness up before then, Me & Mr Hemlock would love to come!

Each walk/peak is about 8 miles, as the total covered on the 3 Peaks is about 24 miles. As I said earlier though, if enough people are interested in going away for the weekend, but some feel the walks are too far, we can always split up into 2 groups. It wouldn't be compulsory to do all 3, or even any of the Peaks. There are always shorter alternatives available.
What would be nice though, would be if we could just about fill a barn with SF people.

Yes I'm up for this, I'm flexible about dates so will go with the majority here. I will get some routes planned out to do this over a 3 day period, they have such route plans on the Go4aWalk Website which I subscribe to and can download.
I'm also up for doing the official 12 hour 3 Peaks Challenge later in the year if anyone is interested.

Hi Rambler. How about coming along on one of the weekly walks before you commit yourself to the week-end thing, you might not like what you see!

Looks like I'm the first one to post, and in doing so am delighted to report to all and sundry that this weekends Camping Barn trip was a great success!
13 people in all ventured up to Horton-in-Ribblesdale for 3 days walking, during which time the majority of those present completed the 3 Yorkshire Peaks, whilst those that didn't do all 3 peaks enjoyed some good walking around the lower slopes of the mountains. For 2 days out of 3 the weather was kind to us, with the one bad day providing us with fog, rain, wind, hail, snow? and to round the day off, even a bit of sunshine.
As well as walking, we also did a bit of climbing, some geo-caching, had a lovely bbq evening, card schools, games night and enjoyed a full weekends Who Can Snore The Loudest In A Confined Space competition, for which I can announce joint winners....................roll of drums.............Mr and Mrs Hemlock No prizes for the winners, apart from a lifetimes enjoyment of zzzzing to be given to each other, which I hope they will be happy to receive as well as give.

I have to say that I have heard on the grapevine, on good authority that a certain group leader who's name begins with S was a very close contender for this much acclaimed award! I will also say that I tried very hard not to snore & felt really guilty when I failed in my task
But, I must congratulate everyone for such a fantastic weekend, especially all those involved in the organisation, & everyone for being such great company Not one cross word amongst us (well, not to my face anyway ) & lots of fun & laughter all round.
I promise I'll try even harder not to snore on the next walk we go on

Just want to second scoobz comments and thank both him and Billysmum for all the behind the scenes organisation that made this such a successful and enjoyable weekend.
I think mountain walking including scrambling up rocky slopes was a first for a number of our walkers, and I think everyone felt the sense of achievement after such challenging walks.
Not sure if this has encouraged or put me off my plans for attempting all 3 of these inside 12 hours - pass the Lycra "shall we run this bit"

Well I would have posted earlier but I've been recovering in the bath, I don't think my thighs will ever recover from that first descent.
It was a great weekend and although the accommodation was sparse we all pitched in and made it home for three nights.
The walks were great. The first up Whernside was easy but the descent was a killer for someone with short legs. Ingleborough was a different matter and when I saw the climb I nearly wet myself...but being in a group helped and I was determined to overcome my terror of heights and make it up. Pen-y-gent was another that required use of hands to get to the top but was a very rewarding climb.
My thanks to Scoobz and neoteric for arranging it all, Neily for the lift and everyone else for the company.
And finally... HERE are my photos

Some great pictures there taxman - and I know what you mean about the descents I always underestimate how difficult the downhill bits can be.
Finally uploaded my pics here

I thought that was a fantastic weekend, even though the the camping barn wasn't really up to much. I dont suppose it's where you stay it's who you stay with that matters. So thanks to you all for making it a fun filled weekend
