There is a nice little article in the Waitrose food magazine this month called "15 reasons to visit Sheffield".

It's worth a quick read.

Just off the top of my head.

1 Town hall. Looks great lit up at night
2 Canal basin
3 Broomhill, Ranmoor & Endcliffe areas. Beutiful vibrant areas
4 Hunters bar, Eccelsall & Sharowvale areas. As above & interesting as well
5 Cask & Cutler
6 Fat Cat
7 Kelham Island brewery
8 Gardeners Rest, especially ovrlooking the river
9 New Barrack Tavern
10 Hillsborough Hotel
11 Hillsborough, but none of the pubs. Vibrant, alive. Nice feeling of community
12 General Cemetery. Very interesting & atmospheric
13 Supertram
14 Wicker archers, but not the Wicker. Has a suspended walk way over the river under one of its large arches
15 Five weirs walk, or in my case five beers walk. Interesting walk alongside the canal. Can see some of Sheffields industrial past & present. Also has areas designated SSSI

There done it

So to summarise Waitrose:

Budget pubs and 3 chic bars.
Two eateries in Sheffield and one in NE Derbyshire
Kelham Island Industrial Museum and The Winter Garden
Millennium Galleries, Sheffield Scene and Don Alexander
The Cathedral, Victoria Quays, Meadowhall & "Town Shopping"
Jazz Music venues.

The rest are outside the city:
Chatsworth, Bakewell, The Peak District and Country Pubs.

It’s criminal how many people rate the Winter Gardens over the Botanical gardens.

The article did actually mention the Botanical Gardens. They could have included the Ski village instead of some of the attractions which aren't even in Sheffield.

It is so funny how common usage means people want to refer to the Winter Gardens but the council (or someone) has chosen to name them in the singular.

Oh! 5 more things.

1 Botanical gardens
2 Winter gardens
3 New Peace gardens
4 Classic Rock Bar
5 I know you dont have to come here to appreciate this but I want to mention it cos I love it. Hendersons relish. The BEST relish! The ONLY relish!

So that brings my list up to 20. Amazing when you start to think things through how many reasons you can come up with

Hendersons Relish! As an expat (Saffron Walden - oooh, posh!) I get supplies delivered by my mum.
Classic Rock Bar? Where? Tell me! What sort of classic rock?

"Thriving bar scene"? Pah. One of the reasons Sheffield is great is that it still has pubs instead of bars.
