Just deciding the best way to upgrade my CCTV system. Torn between a dedicated 8 camera input DVR unit with internet moniter output, or a dedicated 'capture card' on a PC......

any thoughts? Any obvious advantages to having a PC driven CCTV system, as I think a modern DVR unit can do just about anything security camera wise, and can also upload live images to the net.

Dedicated Micros and Dennard are top names for any CCTV system but they carry a premium price.

You can get a 4 BNC input to USB gadget from maplin for £60 with DVR software representing the other end of the spectrum.

In the middle is the 4 or 8 input DVR which is robust and specific for the need. Don't skimp on the cameras, get the best you can afford. Get one Day/night CCD with a varifocal to test each position first or use a cctv lens calculator.
