I thought Thatcher back in the mid 80's after the miners made a complete fool of themselves in 83/4 declared that she would end the right to strike?????

Yawn. Already been done to death. What's so selfish about trying to earn an honest living?

Which strikers would that be? They're all probably at work at the moment, even in Liverpool.

but surely the people that have been in power since have reversed this action, because it still happens? Tube strikes, post strikes, etc etc. I think people have the right to defend their right to fair employment, it might get in the way of normal life for a few days but thats how they get their points noticed. Its only post.

No you are mistaken there. There were various anti union measures, but not the end to the right to strike.

Apparently Wednesday have signed a couple of postmen as they're in dire need of strikers.

And I am waiting for a first class item posted last Tuesday which still has not arrived....Why don't they all get off their butts....I repeat, I have ZERO support for them.....they are paid to do a public service and they should be doing that...if they don't like the wages get another job its SIMPLE.......there are well over 100,000 job vacancies in South Yorkshire and many probably pay far more than the PO

Tell that to people who depend on the Royal Mail for their work...ie all the Ebayers, people who run businesses and who are awaiting deliveries and collections,

Never thought the proprietor/owner of the the dove and rainbow would be a staunch Thacherite!
I'm all in favour of the working man being able to withdraw his labour in a free and democratic country.
Sorry if it's a great loss to you that you're missing a letter. I'm sure all the posties took days off just on a whim, and didn't think long and hard about all THEY were giving up.

I agree with you 100%

I am waiting for a parcel marked LIVE BIOLOGICAL MATERIAL. It's also marked URGENT. It's live food for our gekhos. It was posted several days ago from a warehouse in Sheffield so it hasn't far to go. Also waiting for a fancy dress outfit for my 4 year old who is going to a party tomorrow.

To say I'm am mightily p*ssed off with our postal service is an understatement.
The day there is an alternative to the Royal Mail I shall use it.
Even if it costs a little more.

You are assuming that the strike is all the fault of the workers, rather than the fact that their terms and conditions are being changed (in their perception) negatively. Should all workers always merely accept what is handed out to them? I remember Mrs Thatcher's economic guru being very much in favour of "free collective bargaining" and Norman Tebbit actually became active in the Conservative Party when he had some free time because he was on strike, having helped organise the strike.

I think you'll find there a many alternatives to Royal Mail when it comes to parcels, which is what you say you're waiting for. So why didn't you ask for it to be couriered? The postal strikes have been widely advertised, so did you not realise there may be a problem with immediate deliveries? If a company would not make alternative delivery options available in light of the strike, they do not deserve custom.

What swordfish1 said. There ARE alternatives.
Or you could always go and collect the URGENT parcel yourself, especially as it was only in Sheffield...

If we all went back to using carrier pigeons for our Ebay purchases we could put the Royal Mail out of business within weeks.
