hey guys, im looking for some help in finding out what is wrong with my computer. I went to turn it on awhile ago and it seemed like the power was surging, the lights in the case and on my power button kept flashing. i powered it down and opened the case and cleaned it out well. plugged it back in and tried again, this time the power supply started smoking. I assumed it was the power supply that went bad, so i replaced it with the same power rated supply, just changed brands, went from a ultra 500w to a cooler master 500w, but now it still wont power up? anyone have any suggestions on what else might be wrong with it? i doubled checked all my wires, and everything is hooked up like it used to be

It could be that the motherboard has died.... We probably couldnt say anymore without looking at it, or knowing what cpu/ram it has and bringing a spare of each to test...

could be anything. sounds like the power supply blew (smoke coming out of it isnt good), it couldve taken other parts out with it. the motherboard is the moost likely to be dead, but its often a case of trial & error, testing each part individually until you find the fault.
