That's how I feel tonight. Think I'll go and eat worms.

I'm the impressive height of 5'2", and if I thought it was bad enough finding ordinairy trousers to fit me, buying maternity trousers is pretty much impossible.

I had ordered some through the post but because of the postal strike didn't get them for ages, by which time I was desperate and on the verge of going to work in my pyjamas! When they eventually turned up yesterday, they'd sent me the wrong size. I could have cried. Because that site uses royal mail, I thought there's no point in trying to get them to send me the right ones, I'll have had the baby before they get here.

HENCE I have tonight been round the whole of Meadowhall and found absolutely nothing even vaguely wearable.

Brand new big Next - doesn't stock maternity, 'try Leeds' they said. WOT??? Does Sheffield not have enough babies born for them to bother???

Mothercare - I'm not overly fashion conscious, but really, they do maternity wear for pregnant grannies. Jeans were horrible, though all credit to them they did do different lengths.

H&M - only sell trousers for leggy scandinavians

New Look - normally do different length trousers, but not in maternity. Unless you're 32" leg you're stuffed.

Debenhams (Red Herring) - theoretically do short length trousers, but in reality didn't actually have any (well, one pair of size 1

Pumpkin Patch - one length only

Dorothy Perkins - win the prize for coming closest, quite a few 'short' but frustratingly sizes 6, 8, 12, 14 - not 10, which was the one I needed.

I do own a sewing machine and am perfectly capable of taking a pair of trousers up, but most of the ones in shops are so long that I would need to take loads off, hence ruining the shape and making them look rubbish. With a heavy heart I am about to search the internet again..

I want some supercomfy overthe bump all round jersey band type things, any recommendations??? (needless to say it needs to be a site which uses couriers and not Royal Mail..)

I'm 5' and not quite an inch, lol. I gave up the attempt to be in any way smart but then, I also had a bump the size of a blue whale stuck to the front of me (cosycub was 10lb 13 oz when born).

I did get a good pair of maternity combats from Asda that were the right length. Other than that, I had to cope with rather unflatteringly large jogging bottoms. Gorgeous.

What I would do next time, is invest in those stretchy fabric inserts you can put in your jeans, and spend the money i would have spent on trousers on long, flattering shirts to hide the inserts - I hold out no hope at all I would ever manage to find another pair of maternity trousers that fit my height and looked decent, so why struggle and get upset? With the inserts I could hope to stick to my favoured jeans for a longer time (not that I can find anything too great when not preggers, lol)

Good luck!

I can't give much advice, despite being a rather unlengthy 5ft 4.5in (the half counts for the world!) I managed to get maternity jeans, I was advised not to wear them though due to the restriction of blood flow rather an enormous twin bump.
So, I went the other way and bought a series of hippy skirts, nice and long, enormous waistlines when extended the whole way but still fit nicely now the twins have long vacated my body because they have drawstrings and the skirt just becomes more gathered.
Skirts were my answer, but then, rather like Cosy, I was rather large, when I realised that my bottom touched one side of a door frame and my bump nudged the opposite side I even considered shopping in CCC camping and caravanning centre as I figured clothes were past possible and tents were the final resort :O

Why not just buy some that fit on the waist and take them up to the right length?

I'm 5"4 and I always have to take trousers up, 32" leg is the standard leg length in most shops.. I always have to shorten them to 30".

littlewoods do maternity clothes, the trousers start from a 29'leg & they use home delivery sevices to deliver the packages. addictions direct is the same company as littlewoods but for some reason the clothes are cheaper in there than littlewoods so it would be worth lookng at that site first.

I can vouch for Littlewoods, I am 5'3" and the littlewoods 29" leg fit great, I will be popping into asda in the near future to see what they have so will keep you in the know!

I had a similiar problem being an inch taller than you !
What about one of those belt things that let you wear your own trousers but expand with you... not sure how they work as I didn't buy one. I lived in a pair of H&M trousers for my pregnancy and some disgusting jogging bottoms if I could avoid going out!

Thanks for all the tips guys, it makes me feel better to know I'm not alone in feeling stumpy, fat and badly dressed!

I will check out Littlewoods / additions, and will also pop into Asda next time I'm Handsworth way. I was wondering if Asda did maternity wear... Right now I'm sitting happily in some mis-shapen jogging bottoms, if it wasn't for having to leave the house on a daily basis I could quite happily go through the next 4 months in these!

meant puttin a note on my post when i was pregnant i was told to go to asda as they did a great range of maternity wear, but it was a wasted trip, they had stopped selling it. It was 6 months ago tho, things may have changed, may be worth ringing them so its not a wasted trip unless anyone can tell you otherwise.

I am going back a few years as my youngest is 12, but I had the same problem back then. I was as wide as I was tall when I was pregnant

I lived in cheap stretchy waist trousers from Peacocks and Bonne Marche and long tops to cover the waist.

If it's any consolation, really tall women can't find decent maternity wear either. Even Long Tall Sally only sell one pair of trousers and one pair of jeans that are properly long. Apparently nobody really tall ever has a baby and a job for which they need to wear suits, or goes to any sort of events when they need to wear formal wear or even a nice dress.
