is it all Whale music and nutty fudge bars, or does it sell plants and garden itmes....

I hate those rubbish 'garden centres' who sell the odd bush and plant surrounded by £300 BBQ sets and a strange stand selling you music from inside the Womb! - this has nothing to do with gardening!

Then you get the 'coffee rooms' - bigger than the carpark and full of people who hate gardening or can't think of anywhere else to take 'mother'

New Leaf at Dronfield has none of this - it sells plants! and shrubs! and tree's, and soil, and ...... you get the idea!

SO WHAT IS THE NEW ONE LIKE?

You should try the little one at Middle Handley (near Eckington).
Family run : mum and two sons.

I went today and thought it was brilliant !!!! ,no its not just a garden centre , its alot more than that ! Theres stuff for the kids , gorgeous gifts for all ages , books , stuff for the kitchen and a section selling christmas stuff , decorations , trees , lights everything . It sounds like its gonna be good at chrismas too , santa arrives in November on a sleigh pulled by reindeer .Other chrimbo stuffs happning like story time for the kids and you can buy a christmas snowflake ( i think !) for a loved one and they decorate a tree with them , i picked up a leaflet with it all on .
Theres a great craft shop there too , bit like hobbycraft, an outdoor clothes shop and a place that sells loads of specialist foods , not fancy stuff ,just things you dont find in the supermarkets and local shops .
Even my hubbie had a good look round and he usually hates places like that and is usually saying "can we go home yet" after the first 2 minutes so it must be good, Ha Ha !!
Well worth the trip out for an hour or two !! X

Its pretty good in my opinion. Quite a varied selection of fish. Some fantastic look Koi too outside.

Other than that, if you go, get there early, although the car park is quite large, it fills up quick and people tend to park randomly after that!

Can anyone help.Ive been trying to find a certain garden centre for years now .
I was taken there quite a few times in the 80s by a friend in a car but cant ask him as he passed away some time ago.
Ill try my best to describe it . Immediately after the entrance was the garden ornaments, and then you came to the actual little shop which had large trout/carp type fish in a tank.
When you passed through the little shop you went down the grassy banking to the waterfall section which was kind of in a cave style sort of thing and some parts were lit up.Then there was a beautiful garden to walk round. And i think a small play area with a big plastic monster climbing thing in it.
I think from the main road you went through some big wrought iron gates and then found the garden centre on a side street.
This could have been near Barnsley or Doncaster as we went to those areas a lot.
Anyone any ideas. It was not a massive place.
