I have for many years wondered why the names of certain Peak District tors have come about. In particular, Mother Cap and Over Owler near Hathersage. Any ideas?

I'll have a nosy round the books which I've got to see if I can assist in answering your question.
I'm sure that I came across a book once with the title, ' The High Peak - Places and Names ' or ' White & Dark Peak District - Places & Names '. Something like that.
I'll let you fish for it. If I find anything I'll let you know.
