Okay my work PC keeps shutting itself off... and rebooting.

its not overheating, I'm not running a million programmes at once and it only happens when I'm on my own. Background, I am working alone, in a locked building - nobody can tamper with it and I have checked all the cables and connections.

Its like a power cut ... but all the other pc's run fine.

OH reckons there is a reasonable and simple explanation, I reckon its a ghost... the same one that bangs around the building..

If a power supply is on its way out, it can cause random lock ups, and power off's... thats one idea atleast..

lol..
well, it being under 3 years old doesnt really make a difference, depends how cheap the power supply is, depends on the location of the PC (if its around/near dust or something similar etc..) also depends how much its on each day, as most power supplies are made for an average of 10 hours per day, 5 days per week and usually have around a 3-4 year life, again depending on the quality of the pc and power supply..

shutting down could be a number of other things also, such as sleep mode kicking in, RAM issue, over heating (which you said it isnt) could even be a faulty motherboard...

could be, it just needs a clean reinstall.

windows sometimes reboot the machine when it does a window update via the internet if you have that option switched on. That could explain why yours reboot and the others don't.

have you done this yet, Fox?

if you do, you'll get a blue screen when it dies... and *may* be able to work out what the problem is from there.

it doesnt GIVE you the blue screen, it just shows youve got the error anyway, the resetting could be the error its just set to automatically reboot instead of giving you the error, personally i find it tons more annoying when the puters keeps rebooting for no reason

It would be a good idea to do it Fox, if the problem arises again you will get the blue screen instead of the machine rebooting. Don't be afraid of the blue screen of death, be afraid of what causes the blue screen of death. To be honest I don't see it as the blue screen of death, I see it as the blue screen of information. As said before, if you un-check the box that Mel was on about it will just let you know about the error and let you reboot rather than just rebooting. Go on Fox be a devil.
