BE A GOOD NEIGHBOUR
Watch for your neighbours - are they old? Are they disabled or in other ways possible vulnerable? If so, just check in with them.

(This also fits with what we've been suggesting about supporting our Council workers, police and emergency service workers by feeding, watering and warming any of them near you!)

"South Yorkshire Flood Victim Support
The leaders of the four South Yorkshire Authorities - Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield have today announced the launch of the South Yorkshire Flood Victim Support Appeal with Hallam FM and Yorkshire Bank.

The appeal aims to raise money to support thousands of people displaced by the severe flooding that hit South Yorkshire this week (25 June).

In a joint statement, Barnsley's Cllr Steve Houghton, Mayor of Doncaster Martin Winter, Rotherham's Cllr Roger Stone and Cllr Jan Wilson of Sheffield said:
"Thousands of our residents across South Yorkshire have suffered the upset, and in some cases, the tragedy of severe flooding. We hope that people from South Yorkshire and beyond realise the financial and emotional pain that many victims are enduring and find a way to help."

Donations can be made at any branch of Yorkshire Bank or via post to any of the four South Yorkshire Council offices.

BEST PRACTICE FOR THE FUTURE
What I intend to do 'after the event' is gather together all the good advice, information, etc. that's been posted on here in to a form that we can put somewhere, maintain it's accuracy, and then make it available for download via SF or anywhere else that would host it whenever we get a similar situation to this arising agan.

I'd intend including:

1. Contacts / phone numbers
2. Best practices for dealing with problems
3. Local roads likely to flood based on this flood
4. Local resources
5. Useful things to have ready for future problems

Stuff like this.

So.... I'm going to ask that if anyone has any good advice that's not on the Flood Forum at the moment - things they found they needed, useful contacts, ways to dry things out, etc. then can you possibly just drop me a note and then I'll get back to everyone after things have settled down.

Hopefully by learning from what's happened this time, we can make things easier for ourselves if it happens again. Also, other areas may be able to benefit from our experiences.

Anyone interested in helping with this - because getting it together and maintaining it will be an ongoing affair - please contact me direct.

LESSONS FOR THE FORUM
As I mentioned elsewhere, we will be taking a look at the suggestions made as to how teh Forum might do things differently in the future, based on suggestions made on threads and also our own 'behind the scenes' experiences.

A CHARITABLE TRUST
It's been suggested that we might be able to build on the 'good vibes' from this period to build a longer term structure to provide ongoing support for community good causes in the future. The cabbie who bought me home this morning also suggested this after I told him about SF.

This wouldn't necessarily be associated with Sheffield Forum, but in an individual capacity I'd be interested in what we could do to formalise something. This would have to be 'done right' with Charity registration, etc.

MEADOWHALL SITUATION REPORT

"Meadowhall Shopping Centre remains closed as a result of the unprecedented flooding experienced in the Sheffield area and we are now working towards opening Monday 2nd July.

The centre’s ongoing clean-up operation is making good progress and will continue over the coming days. Meadowhall’s retailers are on site and working hard to get their shops up and running when normal services and utilities are restored."
