Hi there,

i've decided to take bull by the horns and learn to drive. I'm a 26 yr old female and I've never had a single lesson before.

What I want to know is whats the average amount of lessons to pass?, how much are lessons? and anyone decent to recommend in or around Handsworth? It needs to be evening and weekend lessons as I work full time.

Thanking you muchly

It took me around 55 hours to pass with no private practice, lessons were £19 per hour.

I used Mr Bridger of this very forum.

www.freeway-som.co.uk

Good luck and my best advice would be don't rush anything on your lessons, take your time

Took me ages to learn to drive, but then I wasnt interested in it and only took lessons because I had to.
It was the best move I ever made though because driving is brilliant.

Im jealous of you, because those lessons, that test and the first couple of years after you passed your test are great years that you`ll remember fondly for the rest of your life.

I am looking forward to it jabber. My sister lives in Northants and I only see her once or twice a year so driving means more time with the neice and nephews. also saves a bomb on bus fares not just in sheff but home to Glasgow and to northants. Then there's the taxi's with the food shop........ God so many reasons. The freedom mostly and I wont feel like a grown up till I have my licence! lol weird I know.

Dont forget the day trips to the seaside too! Skeggy, Blackpool, Brid, Scarborough, TONS of places to visit!
All incentives for you to take lessons and pass!

God youre gonna love it!

14 lessons, £8 an hour.

(although that was 16 years ago). If he's still about Ralph Stockwell passed me. And all my mates, very quickly as well.

I started driving at 26 too, and not because I wanted to, but because I felt I had to. I wasn't so much nervous about starting as apprehensive as to whether I had left it too late to do it or not. However, I got a really good instructor and within a few lessons I was really enjoying my driving. His name was Ian Priest and he was from JDM. Lessons with them are £20 each (for an hour) or you can block book 10 for £185. You also get your first lesson half prices.

If you want more info Ian's number is 07973 417849 or you can look at http://www.jdmsheffield.com/.

Good luck!

There's nothing wrong with doing some research in advance.

I'm 37 (just) and only passed my test in November last year.
Took my theory just after starting my lessons, on the 1st Sept, passed that first time!
I used Dave Woodhouse, AM School of Motoring, after geting a recommendation off SF, had around 22 lessons, but I already had the basics in place, after trying to learn in my own car around 17 yrs ago, failed then gave it up as a bad job! Though, now I wish I had stuck with it!! (hindsight is a wonderful thing!!)
This time round, I passed on the third attempt,(17th Nov) after what I thought was my worst driving test!!
Bought a car, now the freedom is just beyond belief, you can do so much whenever you like (work commitments permitting, of course!)
Now we have our baby, its even better, cos now we have an excuse to go down the East Coast, etc!!!
BRILLIANT, I SAY JUST GO FOR IT, AND DONT GIVE UP TILL YOU'VE PASSED, YOU'LL NOT REGRET ANY OF IT ONCE YOU DO PASS!!

Good Luck!!

Has anyone passed their test in an automatic car? If so, who was your instructor?
