OK there are some feral kids. That's a fact. But why do the "old fogies" brand all kids, even young ones as being trouble when they are just playing?
This Forum has some miserable old "b*ggers who complain at the sound of children playing! "I won't buy this house 'cos it backs on to a children's Park/Playground!" and "They disturb my peaceful enjoyment of my own garden on a Sunday afternoon"! etc etc.
Surely children have to play. They won't develop into responsible adults unless they do exactly that!
Late this afternoon my neighbour (he's got 2 adult sons and grandchildren himself) berated a couple of very young kids playing, as kids do, with one of them on a small bike in our cul-de-sac, and another one riding a novel, manufactured tricycle of sorts with plastic wheels making a rumbling noise when he pedalled it!
The miserable old sod! I wasn't there to hear him, but my wife reported the complaint he made to these two kids!
No wonder the sour old b***ards in society get no respect from younger people.
Yes I'm on a rant! So should everyone when this happens to innocent kids!
Last week some old biddy on SF objected to the sound of kids who "popped their heads over their back fence whilst using a trampoline". BIG DEAL!
What a bl**dy sourpuss!
We've brought up kids (3 of them) and they have always paid there way as adults, haven't robbed anyone and broken any laws. I am proud of them!
Why do old people seem to forget they, themselves. were kids once! I despair! No wonder the kids hate 'em!

The ones that get me are the middle aged self-righteous b*ggers who sit there reading their Daily Heil or Grauniad and ranting about kids being too fat and being stuck inside on their computers all day. Then they come in after lunchtime and are on the phone to the police because some kids dared to roll past them on skateboards!

What gets to me most is that the child (on a very junior-sized bike was aged about 5/6 and the other one was about 8 (the tricycle kid).
They came down the cul-de sac yesterday teatime...and it's obvious the sour old bugger (ban me for that if you like Mods!) must have been lying in wait for them today!
Oh! How I wished I had been there at the time! I'd have stuck up for those kids against such an ignorant oaf!

They simply forget they were kids themselves once. Im guilty of it too sometimes, but the other half slaps sense into me.
Its easy to tar all kids with the same brush, even though bad kids are rare here, I STILL see kids and remember a few little snots on Parson Cross and assume theyre all the same.
Id go so far as to say that envy plays a part in it too, kids have more today than even adults had just 30 years ago.

(Bago fell off her chair and banged her head on the floor.)
I think kids are brought up in today's society to be ever so defensive. What with ASBOs and wotnots, am I surprised? No.
I had to be really mean one time in telling a kid not to eat in a restaurant where he didn't buy the food from. He didn't seem to understand why. I just said that it was not a done thing. Then all the other customers just sat there staring. I was quite embarrassed. I would've either got told off by my boss, or it would've upset the other customers.
I also had an incidence in McD once whereby a kid threw a fry at me thinking that I was maybe in my teens or something. I think it was his way to get my attention, but I got so wound up and annoyed that I gave him an evil stare. Cos I was minding my own business and I was in a rush eating. I'm too old for him anyway, what was he thinking??

I`ve got to say I totally agree with you shoeshine, (especially about the trampoline thing!)
Thing is, its usually these people that moan about kids spending too much time confined to the house on computers and consoles, that moan when children are outside in the fresh air, having fun. In which case they need to make their minds up!
our rd is a dead end, last summer the neighbours were moaning about the kids having a water fight, soinstead of telling the kids to calm down, I filled loads of balloons with water, got the buckets, hose and squirty bottles out and joined them(which made the kids even noisier )we all had a whale of a time and not one person said a word.
since then, whenever the weathers nice enough, the kids appear outside our house waiting for me to hurl water bombs at em from the bedroom window!
Its great, why not get yourself a bike, put clackers on the spokes and play with the kids, that`ll really wind em up!!!!!

Are you psyching yourself up in readiness for your second childhood, Shoey?

I completley agree I especially have a problem with old people on buses who complain if children make even the slightest noise.
I have been brought up to respect my elders and am brnging my children up to do the same however it really gets to me when elderly people tut and moan if you say excuse me to try and get past them with a pram
sorry to rant but this is one of my personal pet hates

There's an old geezer who lives near us. He does nothing but complain about the noise kids make in front of his house at weekends.
"Can't even have any bloody peace and quiet at weekends around here lately!"
He forgets of course that he gets peace and quiet all week while the kids are at school because he's retired.
And these aren't bad kids causing mayhem. They are usually kicking a ball about or chasing each other playing tag. He hasn't even got a car to worry about parked out front.

I believe its boredom on behalf of the old people. They have too much time on their hands, and just pick on kids for any reason. People of this age are usually very good at reading and spelling, and I often think its a shame they dont let them go into schools to help the young ones with reading & writing. It would give the older people an interest, and the kids would get extra tuition.

Some people aren't happy unless they're complaining and kids make an easy target. Also, when you have children, your tolerance for noise, dirt, and chaos rises dramatically. Mine did anyway, and the sound just doesn't get to you the way it might to an older person whose house is always quiet. Still, that's no excuse to berate a small child. If they're really bothered, they should talk to the parents. Maybe everyone can work out a compromise.

^^^^pattricia, you can do that, my cousin did it for several years at her local school, and she's in her 70s.
I think it's wonderful to see an elderly person supporting children (noisy or otherwise). Way to go, shoeshine
I never mind how much noise other people or their children make , provided they aren't doing it near enough to disturb my friends and family when we're making our noise

That is an excellent idea, pattricia. I know of two retired teachers who do just that. Sadly, one had to stop because of her health and the kids miss her.

I think retired teachers would be excellent for this, mind you they will probably be more tolerant of young children than ordinary older people. Its a shame the older person cant remember back to the time when they were young.

Have you noticed how the same people never complain about 'built like brick sh*thouse skinheads'?

I would rather be around young children myself than people my own age, I could spend hours with the little ones. I think I would have made a good nursery school teacher. I suppose I could do it now but it would be volunteer work, I'm not quite ready to work for free just yet

i like the sound of young kids playing. what's more, i like public displays of affection, too, which must make me really abnormal. i nearly burst into tears at sainsbury's a few weeks ago when this doddery old couple got out of their car veeeerrrrrrrryyyyyyy ssslllllooooowwwwlllllyyyy, and then walked across teh carpark at a snail's pace, holding hands and smiling at each other.
i have to be honest, some sounds taht teenagers are highly proficient at making can make me suspicious as to what they're up to. since some mardy old f****r started shooting my cats, we initially thought it was some teenagers who lived on the road behind us who we'd seen playing with air rifles. ok, it turns out it wasn't them, but i've been twitchy ever since, particularly as some teenage whining noises sound distinctly like cats being tortured.
