Morning Albert,
If you looked up Basseldine Rd to wards St swithuns their house would be on the left set at angle to the corner. I mentioned that I knew a Walt Smith he lived on Q.M Crescent, I can't recall a Ray Smith. I only knew Harry through the cadets. I lived further down the estate on Fretson Road, near the Motehall pub(as was)

We lived at 137 Windy House Lane until about 1946/7 When we moved to 77 Holgate Crescent, Parson Cross. Harry Hewett lived next door to Brian Starr. I think that he had a younger brother call Peter and a elder one who was called Gorden Eastwood.

Harry Hewett along with my elder brother Raymond use to frighten the living daylights out of most of the younger lads of my age with the ( Tall ) stories.

One was that if we ever were walking on a path on the allotments opposite City Road Cemetary Wall near to the Manor Castle. We may come across a Princess who would ask if we could show her the way back to the Castle's Tower.

We weren't allowed to look took close at her, because if we did, we would notice that, ' She'd have her head tucked under her arm ' and that was why she could not see over the allotments hedges to find her own way around!!

Harry Hewitt and my brother Raymond were really good at spinning yarns and usually all of the youngster sat down whilst they spun them, taking it all in!. Can anyone else living on Windy House Lane during the war years and shortly after remember any others?

Has anyone memory's of playing on the Rec that was,or still is, on Hastilar Road boarded by Queen Mary Road, Hastilar Road and (I've forgotten, its that log back).
In my day. prior to 1946 it was fenced off with only one entrance. If the Park Keeper caught you climbing the fence he'd giveyou a clout and stopped you playing with everyone else for that day.

Yes Albert I spent many happy hours on the "rec". If I remember rightly it was in three tiers. The bottom one, nearest the gate, had the roundabouts then the middle was the swings . The top one had the flying plank and the rocking horse. There was the park keepers hut and a hut where we could shelter when it rained and also there were toilets. Aaaah, fond memories.

Are you puzzled? TTFN
Not puzzled,... scared. I can understand you knowing all my childhood mates, I was quite a tomboy then as I had three brothers and they couldn't go out to play unless they took me with them. Norman was Norman King who lived next door and I remember Goerge Knapton very well. What worries me is the Wybourn lads, I was 14 and I knocked about with Mousey, Norman Browse, my first love, then there was Tommy Brookes, Phil Smith and Joe Parish who knocked about with my mates Betty, Margeret and Barbara. I really hope you are going to tell me who you are.

Hi Tatty dumps
Sorry to hear you are scared as to what I`m going to say, there is nothing to be frightened of in your teenage years that I can contribute too. Getting to know who I am will come when you link up the few things I `ve already said, with a few pieces I`ve left out up to now you may realize who I am.
One final thing can you still whistle like you could when you were fourteen.

Please give me a little biddy clue as to who you are. I have a feeling you are a link with Stand House School where they used to have the Army Cadet meetings This was held on the same night I was at the youth club, (Y.W.C.A.) and there was quite a bit of mingling went on. As for the whistling, that's all gone the same way as my teeth. This makes me think of something else, were you a paper boy. I took them for a couple of years for Mr Hanson on City Road. But I don't know why I am telling you all this because you probably know already. Did we go to the same school? Please put me out of my misery.

Hi Tatty Dumps,
Yes I was a paper lad but not for Hansons but for Hirsts at the corner of Cullabine rd. Now I`m Waiting for Albert T to tell ""us all on sunday". I never said thanks for the free bus rides when you worked on the buses, I reckon you were the quickest clippy on the transport. Yes it is in connection with Cadets. Sorry I can`t find the emoticons so that I can express what I`m saying:-) :-)

Ignore Albert 'cos he knows more than he's saying! Are you going to tell me who you are
or have I got to send all my family round to beat you up? I'll take a stab is your name Stan? No - I think you have to be someone I saw quite a lot of over the years. You know I was a clippie and you know I worked at Manor Top. If I gave you free rides then I must know you very well aaaand I must have liked you. I was the quickest clippie by the way. Just a little more information might help. Pleeeeeaaaaase

Well I have to admit I`ve never been on my computer for so long before. But I`m sorry my
mum is sending me to bed. As for sending your family to beat me up you`ll have to have a trip down to sunny Norfolk. Good night sweet princess ,got to put my teeth in to soak before I go to bed
