Help needed with computer- one machine in my house won't connect to the internet

the main computer in my house isnt working.im on aol with netgear.the main computer wont connect to the internet but the 2 computers that are wireless in the house are still working hence why im able to send this message.does anybody know what the problem is on my main pc

Most likely your wireless settings on the router.

Go through them with the router manual + the settings from your ISP.

If it's wired, it could be a cable issue.

Send a message via MSN to Silver
Check you don't have two pc's with the same ip address ... Turn the two working pc's off and try the one that doesn't work on it's own . If it works then you have conflicting ip's

Or go Start > Run > type in "CMD" and then when the command prompt opens up, type in "Ipconfig /all"

Compare the settings on each PC.

quick fix buy a wireless usb device for your pc and just put it on the wirless quick and easy and no messing about otherwise its all about checking that your onbord network card is working that its not disabled and all that crap

Why buy a second warless adapter when the first one hasn’t been identified as the problem?

Also a USB wireless adapter will only run at a maximum of 10mb connection due to limitations on the bus speed.

So I wouldn’t buy one if I where you, considering most modern wireless adapters are now 802.11G (54MB max).
