This maybe old news to alot of you pet owners but thought id give this a mention a friend has been losing a few birds each week .I visited his avairy after spending a hour working out what he had been doing and giving them along with there standed seed i noticed he had a large selection of apples ect hanging in the avairy just cut in half my point is apple and some other fruit pips do contain small amounts of cyanide after removing the cores all is well so far so has this done the trick ? only time will tell.

Hi, although I give my Linnies diced up apple, I also give them broccoli, cabbage, spinach, cress and red peppers. Red peppers are very high in vit c and the birds love them. Perhaps your friend could look at changing the fruit and veg and quantities. You're right about the pips being toxic to the birds though.
Hope your advice works for him.

By cress, do you mean salad cress or water cress? I am always on the lookout for some new treat to give my canary - mostly he adores broccoli and mangetout.

Hi...yep salad cress is fine. Something I supplement my birds with and they are very partial to it is DriGreens. It's 99p per pack at PAH and it consists of dried alfalfa flakes, cabbage, crushed chilli pepper and celery.

It smells gorgeous and I just sprinkle it on top of their daily seed and mix about 3-4 times per week.

They can't get enough
