I recently started working in Sheffield and will be here for about 6 months. I'm looking for somewhere to play basketball (not pro level!) to keep fit and have fun. Does anyone know any runs I can join?

There used to be a basketball session on a friday night at EIS Sheffield i think it was organised by the Sharks. It might be worth contacting them. It was mainly players fro the local league playing in it.

Hi there

I play in the local league myself, however the season has just ended. There will be a summer league coming up but you will need to fin yourself a team. If you PM me I will forward you the address of the league secretary.

As for pick up games, I have tried to get people together a few times to play but I just can't seem to get the numbers needed on this board. Shame really. I'm a big fan of playing outdoor ball. If you know of a few people interested I'll gladly make up numbers if required!

No problem.

The standard varies. The team I play for is a lot more 'recreational', we're not that high a standard and are more in it for the fun. Better teams such as Loxley and Alcium are a much higher standard and will give a damn good competition to most takers.

If our team manages to get a training session going any time soon I will let you know.

I too prefer indoor ball as I like the structured game but you can't beat a bit of streetball for the moves and aesthetics of it. Like I said, PM me if you manage to get any games going.

No worries...if i hear of anything happening, I'll let you know. I tried finding out about booking the court in ponds forge, and it was £37 for 45 minutes for a half court! No wonder b-ball isn't popular in the uk

I could stay home and watch NBA, but on a summer evening I like to go up the street to watch rec stuff on the local outdoor court. It usually starts up with ten men on the court as its supposed to, but after a couple of 20 minute halves it descends into a mad scramble of up to 20 guys ( and girls ) Great to watch now I'm too old to shoot from the perimeter. ( I always was )

Ponds Forge is possibly the worst place you could try. Give the EIS on Coleridge Road a call if you're after decent courts, alternatively don't hold back on calling schools that hire their sports halls out, they can be quite cheap.

Where!?!?! My husband and I have just moved over here from NYC and he used to find a game every night. Now he's getting desperate. Any info on leagues or pick ups would help me greatly.

is there anywhere you can just go with a couple of mates and have a game or two that is indoors and you can allways get on the court.

Have you thought of Dutch basketball? Probably not, but we are looking for new players. It's a mixed sport and the men have usually progressed to us through basketball. We have got a massive commitment to matches through the next season (so we really need new players)and we will start training in a matter of weeks. We are pretty sociable too!
Sheffield Trotters - remember that name

Check us out at www.sheffieldtrotters.co.uk

You could be playing matches in the development team after 4 weeks of training, maybe progressing to the 1st team through the season.

With excellent coaching - Teams will be playing in the Yorkshire Korfball League and the Central England Korfball League.
Starting the first Tues in Sept.

We will be training at our new venue;
Waltheof Sports Centre,

Tues, 8-930pm. Beginners very, very welcome
