With Panorama's take on life at Rye Hill and how much under pressure privately employed prison officers are.

Do you think that the government should bring back control of ALL prisons? Bear in mind that due to the under payment of staff, the continual loss of officers, high turn over of staff , mobile phones, drugs, lost keys and lead to general concerted indiscipline.

Officers are not to blame IMO, but the companies behind the pitiful regimes which these establishments follow are the ones who perpetuate this sick joke against our prison system. I am absolutely disgusted by the majority of the practices displayed in this documentary and horrified by some of the school boy errors made by some of the supervising officers.

When Blair came to power he promised that he would revert control of ALL prisons back to the public sector ........ lets just chalk that up to another one of his promises that he wilfully broke

Yes the companines are responsible to a degree but they make a great scape goatt to the fact they are not gven enough money to do a better job. Same with nursing homes and hospital cleaning companies and many more.

It reflects on this governments privatisation of all mainline services in a bid to save money, but ends up costing the country more. Just imagine what would happen if the armed forces were privatised and someone like Bush took control, It doesn't bear thinking about. After the privatisation of coal fields, railways, public transport, prisons etc etc etc have all failed, Just how long will it be before someone in government will realise, what the rest of us already know, and that is, it doesn't work or pay to privatise.

Are you sure ? - I don't remember that

Getting back on topic I read in one of the broadsheet rags this morning that the govt. are also aiming to make prisoner discipline in private jails the responsibility of the operating companies rather than the Home Office.

This can only lead to an increase in the intimidation and corruption of the warders in 'private' prisons.
