How many zebra crossings - you know, the old fashioned ones with belisha beacons sitting on top of a black and white pole as opposed to the new fangled pelicans, toucans, puffins - are there left in Sheffield?

The only one I know of, because I pass it at least twice a day, is on Crookes Valley Road - just down from the junction of Harcourt Road.

I'm amazed it hasn't been updated to have lights given the width of the road and how busy the road can be at "rush hours".

Has it got a preservation order slapped on it, or is somebody trying to turn the local student population into road kill?

Maybe they should start re-instating them as so many car drivers seem to be ignoring red lights nowadays, at least on the old zebra's you didn't start crossing till you knew the traffic was stopping. I had a driver swearing at me at Greystones as I started to cross over when the lights said I could and he had to stop, I'm quite sure if I hadn't started to walk he'd of just kept going.

There are a couple around the roundabout at Penistone Road/Halifax Road/Leppings Lane. I think there's one at the top of Leppings lane too.

Come to think of it, there a dozens!

There's two at the corner of Brocco Bank/Clarkehouse Road and Westbourne Road. Someone mentioned students and roadkill?

There used to be one in Attercliffe by Dancing Dollar.
