Hello,

Does anyone know of any local woodland owners or green wood workers around Sheffield?

I need to source some supplies; mainly straight Ash trees up to 12" dia and coppiced Hazel or Willow rods (5 years growth or less). I can come along to the wood if needed and help sort through any standing stock.

For a longer term project I will also be looking for Oak preferably up to 13' long that will converted into beams and posts for a garden shed. Oak substitutes would be good if there is no Oak around. Western Red Cedar would also be useful as this will be converted into shakes for the roof and possible weather boarding on the walls.

A source of lime putty would be really useful as well.

Oh, and maybe slate and local bed rock for a small stone plinth at the bottom.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,
Try these http://www.workingwoodlands.info/ as a starter. SCC also own a surprising amount of woodlands, so you could try contacting Nick Sellwood at SCC's Meersbrook Park offices on Brook Road. Also try Len Carr at http://www.syforest.co.uk/ - he is the community forester and may have some useful contacts.
I saw another post of yours - there are a number of cruck barns in the local area but how specific they are to Sheffield i do not know!
