Radio Nine Scam Warning

Hi,
Be warned there is an organization ringing people saying that they are Radio 9 and you have won £5000
I've spoken to the BBC and they are aware of the problem and say on no account ring the 0900 number to claim your prize.

I'd never heard of radio nine and thought that as the BBC have radio one, two, three,, four ,five etc that they might be the people to ask. They told me that there is no radio nine and it is all a con. The message asks you to ring an 0900 number probably costing you at least £1.50 a minute,
How long waas your daughter on the phone for and what has she won?
The BBC radio switchboard must of had a lot of calls about this as they knew exactly what I was on about before I'd even done more than mention the words 'radio nine'.

Okay thanks - conned out of £10 by the time they milked various questions !!
For what its worth I reported them to ICSTIS which - investigates complaints about the content and promotion of services involving the use of a telephone connection to make a premium rate call. This includes calls to recorded services, voting lines, interactive games, chat services, Internet websites and fax services.

I got conned by this... " congratulations, this is radio 9 and you have won £5000 in a competition....". I rang the number, and got a recorded message asking lots of questions about mobile phone - provider, type of phone, type of account etc, then you eventually get asked to submit your personal details by text message via your mobile phone to another telephone number...."
All in all the phone call was close to 10 minutes..... WE have no mobile covereage here, so I didn't call the mobile number and was left feeling conned and stupid......
Don't do it, 't'aint worth it....

We had one of these messages on our answer machine at work the other week. We just deleted it. I never believe that type of thing anyway.

We seem to get a lot of calls lately where we answer and there is a pause followed by a recorded message saying we've won a prize, call this number (always premium rate).

We just put the phone down.

I also get the occasional text message telling me I've won something and to call them

I've heard of one scam like this going round at the mo that charges £20-£50 a minute. I suppose if your on PAYG it can only scam you out of how much cradit you've got on your phone.

That depends I've got a Virgin pay as you go which charges it to my bank account via direct debit - doesn't bear thinking about that one does it

I've also had a couple of suspicious texts saying they're from "your service provider" please call us on ------

But I never do cos I always think if they really wanted to speak to me they can just ring me themselves. I'm quite positive it's never been them, these messages just reek of scam from a mile off

Had calls from them myself, just put the phone down on them,but thanks for the warning.I wil tell my kids about it as well.

Suddenly you've won 5000 quid for doing nothing- give me a break.

Not if you are calling from a landline no, you are correct there but according to reports in the newspapers this has been known to happen when calling from a mobile.

a short while ago, I got a text message which said

"urgent!! phone this number..."

It appeared on my phone like an operator message (similar to the logos you can get on your nokia and certain other makes of phone)without going through the text message inbox

It scared the beejazers out of me.
The thing is, both my father, and my "other half" are in fragile health, and my first, and most natural thought was
"Oh, Sh**!!! Something has happened to either my father or Mr pt!!"

So ,of course, the natural instinct for me was to call the number in case that is waht the problem was.

I was so angry when I dialled the number, to find it was a shedload of advertising on some recorded message!

I got in touch with Icstis and the tps, and they took action against the company. Unfortunately, I have not heard anything more, nor ao=bout any compensation for teh lost money, (not to mention the upset)

I have also registered to not recieve sales calls and texts, but it doesn't seem to have done much good, as I still get all sorts of crappy text messages such as

"someone you know fancies you, and they have enterd your mobile number to find out who, call XXXXXX"
now THAT one, my first reaction to that is

"wtf?? If they have my number, then why TF do THEY not call MY number? why do they have to tell a company this??"
