CherryNicole   10 #1 Posted February 8, 2007 I'm trying to find out when, in general, my house was built. It's a terrace house on Shoreham Street, near Bramall Lane.  Does anyone know when any of the houses down there were built or where I could find out?  I've tried some searching on google, but can't find anything.  Thanks  Cherry x   Couldn't really find the right section for this, sorry
 Share this content via...
feargal   21 #2 Posted February 8, 2007 Doesn't it tell you on your deeds? I think mine does.
 Share this content via...
CherryNicole   10 #3 Posted February 8, 2007 Sorry, it's just a rented house.  I could ask my landlord, but he ignores my calls you see!
 Share this content via...
MysTique   10 #4 Posted February 8, 2007 You could always buy a copy of the title register from the Land Registry It costs £3.00 and should tell you when the house was first registered along with other information.  There must be a way to find out for free, maybe ask your neighbours if they knew when they were built? Good Luck.
 Share this content via...
pawa   10 #5 Posted February 8, 2007 Shoreham street is in this 1935 map of sheffield. All you need to do is look at old maps, then you'll get a rough idea of when it was built
 Share this content via...
pawa   10 #6 Posted February 8, 2007 It's not on this 1855 map
 Share this content via...

pawa   10 #8 Posted February 8, 2007 But it is on this 1890's map  SO it must have been built between 1885 and 1900
 Share this content via...
HughW Â Â 10 #9 Posted February 8, 2007 You can also use Trade Directories and Electoral Registers to narrow down the earliest dates for an address. Electoral registers are in the Local Studies Library, (1st floor of main library, Surrey Street). They also have the best collection of directories, though the Sheffield Archives (in Shoreham Street!) also have some. Â Have you done an address search here to see if the address existed in the 1901 census? Â If you were willing to pm me the address I can see if it existed in the 1891 census.
