as the last century drew to a close, i became aware that i'd got into the habit of shopping at aldi every friday. surely there was more to life?

baked beans on toast is good for me

i'm having beans for my tea

baked beans only cost nine pee

i got some beans today form aldi

some baked beans and some garibaldi

biscuits, bread and cuppa soup

the girl remembered all the prices

and the bread, i counted sixteen slices

that's less than a penny a slice

my life is all in aldi bags

i survive on beans and fags

newspapers and porno mags

man cannot live on bread alone

i tell myself as i go home

so i'm having baked beans on some

bread at less than a penny a slice

A nice little muse, needs a title though, how about “Aldi time in the world”

The last two lines could rhyme better, maybe something like:

So I’m having baked beans on some bread that is nice
And it’s costing me less than a penny a slice.

PS I didn't know Aldi did "top shelf" mags - learn something new every day.
