Tempted.

I saw them on the Holy Bible tour, and they were incredible. They're just fat middle aged men now, not angry young rockers. Seeing them now may tarnish my memory of them.....

They have changed a lot, they're a very different band to the one that recorded Generation Terrorists, but I still like their newer stuff and they are still pretty good live.

If it had been the arena or city hall I wouldn't have bothered but I reckon the octagon will be great.

Fashions have changed somewhat.

Not for me. Theyve turned into fat boring old men. Everything theyve recorded since Everything Must Go has been bobbins.

I'd go.... if it was 1996 or before

I doubt we will hear them singing 'repeat after me **** queen and country' thou, they should just play Generation Terrorists all the way through with a few of subsequent albums. But thats my personal choice.

I might be half-tempted to go if that was going to be the set-list - but no, it wouldn't be the same without Richey there.

I sadly never got to see them pre Richie leaving. I agree their music is 100 times better when he was there, but when I last saw them at Leeds Festival they only played a few off of This is my truth, nearly all of Everything Must Go (which richie did write some of - He has apparently got sole rights to one of the tracks and joint rights to another 3) and then from what I can remember they played Faster, Slash N' Burn, Scream To a Sigh, You Love Us and a load more. Not sure what but I remember thinking at the time how surprised I was at the amount of old stuff they were playing. Mind you I haven't seen em with him so I don't have anything to compare to. Enjoyed both times I have seen them tho.

I'm sorry you never got to see the Manics playing live with Richey - you really did miss quite something. Every gig was a very special experience. You really felt part of something, and the Manics were consistently the best live band I've ever seen. (Apart from one stupendous Marion gig at the Leadmill, which was my favourite-ever gig).

I'm sure I've bored everyone on here to tears in the past going on and on about the Manics, and how brilliant they were, so I won't go blathering on! Except to say, without Richey, the Manic Street Preachers were one of the greatest bands I've ever seen - with Richey, they were peerless.

Not sure if I should say this, but there are videos of a large number of the early Manics gigs aound 'out there'. They're well worth seeing if you can get them - although they can only convey a taste of the actual excitement and buzz.

Cheers,

StarSparkle

Saw them in December playing the xfm Winter Wonderland in Manchester, they were really good live, but I love the old tracks more than the new!

Arrrr The Manics, I'll always have fond memories, it was after one of their gigs that my partner first told me he loved me! We're still together 10 years on!

We'll be going by the way......

I've seen them a lot (not sure how many times) I like both the old and new stuff but motown junk is one of my favourite all time singles. I don't think they are the problem now its some of the fans! I saw them at the MEN about 4 years ago and we were asked to sit down by some people around us

I think that is one if the reasons they are playing smaller standing venues. Plus they haven't a new cd out for about 4 years and that wasn't that successful!

Anyone know if offbeat will have tickets or its an online job?

"Motown Junk" has always been my favourite Manics song - their best gigs always finished off with it. The last Manic Street Preachers concert I went to - at the time of "Everything Must Go" - the band played "Motown Junk" last - and lots of members of the audience were looking around in confusion, saying things like "Is this a new song?" Oh boy...

Kind of sums it all up really... Johnny come latelys... grrr
