My other half wants to adopt a british bulldog or a rottie that is ok with other dogs I have with my arm bent behind my back aggreed. Does anybody know of anywhere close where we may be able to go and have a look round my one condition on getting one is that its a rescue and is not a puppy. Any information is welcome any other comments regarding being selective of the breed this is something I have looked into and these have the traits we would want.

Have you contacted RainRescue then, or one of the breed rescue societies (clickable in my signature)

You might be worthwhile asking RR about Bear He's looking for a home and is a rottie x staffy, an absolutely adorable little guy who loves other dogs. He may not be the right do for you, you'd have to ask Rainrescue, but you never know.

Otherwise, let me know if you're interested I know of a rottie rescue with a lot in at the moment and I think they're in the North East of England...

Here it is, rottweiler welfare... http://www.rottweilerwelfare.co.uk/About%20Us.htm

I know you know this, but please don't enter into this if it's not what both of you want! You'll need full cooperation from both of you to make this work, so if you're only doing it for the OH please rethink. Having said all that, I think I can safely say you already know all that and wouldn't do it if you weren't sure!

Oh yeah we are putting a lot of thought into this before we go ahead with any adoption. We cant adopt yet as we have a holiday planned and we feel it would be not fair on the dog to take it in the kennel it for two weeks as that would probably stress the hell out of the poor bugger. Thats what my reason for seeing if anybody would be willing to look after my other dog for a couple of weeks. Anybody who knows me on here and the work I do with reptiles knows the first thing we do when looking into a new species is read up on them as much as possible and I guess all the reptile keepers are nodding or I hope they should be.

I love british bulldogs - and certainly some rotties - not all - there seems to be 2 sorts. the ones that like me and the ones that scare the hell out of me.
My friend runs a rescue - Halfway Home at newark - she loves rotties and gets a fair few in - give her a call when you are ready.

http://www.rainrescue.co.uk/19.html I know she has Zoe in -

I also have a link on my site to the bulldog rescue -
http://www.bulldogrescue.co.uk/rescue.htm and you can contact them about them. However, bulldogs usually go into rescue cos people dump them for a reason - like i say - i love em to bits - but they are unique.

Also - and its entirely up to you - i think that the 2 dogs you have chosen are entirely different. One will want bags of exercise - toys, playing - energy - attention - meet the rottie - and the other - odds are just wants to potter about the garden, be pampered, brushed, meet the folks - and the odd jaunt in the park.

why not write down a list of what characteristics you both like in a dog, and what you don't want - then just look from there.

Thanks Lotti for suggesting my Baby Bear - he is a dream isn't he? However, i would say that he is s real mix bag of things in there - but mostly i think he has a nice collie temprament - which probably wouldn't do. His right mom and dad are waiting there somewhere for him tho.

which dogs?
You would need to phone either of the 2 rescues and talk to them directly - each of them work as independant rescues -

Halfway home is at newark
the bulldog rescues - their dogs are scattered around the country
is that what you mean>
