One of our volunteer drivers has organised a STREET COLLECTION for us

On the Moor in Sheffield on 27th January 10.00 - 4.00

If anyone is interested in coming to shake a tin for an hour or so with us - or just come and meet some of the dogs - that would be great.

Hope its sunny (yeah joke)

All money will be used on fuel

I am hoping that some of the volunteers will come and take some of the dogs to stand with them. The lot i have in at the moment are lovely and would enjoy a day standing in town.

I don't know whether i will be there or not - depends if i can get away but will try. I am sure they will manage fine without me though.

Lets hope its a fine day for all

Thanks for the offer Msb - I am sure we will have someone nice in for you to stand with - have you seen Syd - he is lovely and lays on the settee all day. (don't think we will take Hunny do you)?

Strix - thats funny Msbehavin was just saying the other day that we need some RESCUE ME coats for the dogs when they are out walking.

We were wondering where we could get some from - i thought maybe normal green flourescent ones and then sticky letters on them?

any other ideas?

By the way - the chap who is organising this for us is called Kim - he email is kimhinchliffe100@yahoo.co.uk - anyone drop him a line if you can come for a while and stand. thank you rr

where do the 'normal green fluorescent ones' come from and how much do they cost?

The 'sticky' letters are usually iron on, which may not be suitable for polyester (which I think is what the fluorescent ones are made of)

Perhaps a cotton (rain mac fabric) would work best? and a photoshop print printed onto a t-shirt iron on paper?

How many do you need? what sizes? I wonder if we could get cheap macs from charity shops to chop up? and they don't need to be full coats, Brude's hi-vis is little more than a triangle with a neck strap

I know where I can get some of these jackets. My friend lives close to a pet shop that does them at a very reasonable price. However she lives down south so would have to get them done and send them to me.

Let me know if you're interested Jacquie and I'll ask her.

Right, just spoken to the friend - didn't realise she was online right now.

Her's worked out at 9 pounds for the jacket with writing but she thinks they may put the price down if it's for a charity and we get a job lot of them done.

The same place also does fleeces/t-shirts for people with custom writing on if you're interested and might do a discount on a job lot of them.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll ask her to ask them.

edit - just been told they give a discount if you advertise them on your website.

Certainly interested in them - cos we may do more of these and they just make you stand out from the crowd.

I do know someone who does sticky letters tho which may stick onto plain green or orange ones - they do the graffixs for our van and give them free.

I am more than happy to advertise them on the site or even on the van. I am just scared about spending the money that people are going to stand and collect for us - but if it does bring more money in - and is there for future collections - a small investment may be worth it.

We could probably kit out 2 dogs and 2 owners - and see if their buckets are any fuller than the others? what do you think?

I think we should ask forumers to sponsor a dog or person

That way you wouldn't be spending your fuel money collections on the publicity

I think the fluorescent jackets are a great idea... will really make the dogs stand out in a crowd, and people will see from a distance & think "ooh whats going on over there then?!"
I think they would be well worth the price cos they could be used over again

Our office has lots of builders viz vests for site visits, I just went to check 2 see if there were any I could pinch for you to adapt for the dogs, but there's only one without a big company logo on (Stata/Velocity/Woolf etc).
I'll have more of a snoop around and see if I can get hold of anymore...

Erm, don't they belong to the company?

Can I just point out that people hi-vis are going to require alot of adaptation, and shouldn't be 'lifted' from people's places of work

They only cost a couple of quid from a workwear shop

If Rainrescue thinks they are a good idea, I have a quantitiy of orange railway gear which is already written off due to it's life expiredness (and not quite so waterproof as it was-ness)

Yeah thats a much better idea I had already thought they would need too much adaptation for it to be worth it.

(Most of our viz jackets seem to have been 'lifted' from building sites anyway - that's why they've got other companies logo's on them )

Sounds like a few in my house

Will try and bob over to meet Syd et al - been a busy old time since I last saw you and never had the time to get up. Will catch up by next week hopefully!

Jackets sound a great idea. I'd happily wear one - or you could put it on the dog! (might stand out a bit more on the walker though). Let's just hope for decent weather. As long as it's not windy AND rainy I'll be happy.

Should I bring a hip flask y'think? Purely for medicinal purposes of course..

I think the jackets etc are a good idea. Looking at it from another point of view, in this cynical age, it will also point out that you are in fact a valid organisation and not just a random bunch of people with dogs asking for money.
