Poor Gimli, out in the storm!

This morning I had the shock of my life when I opened the back door and gimli (our adorable rabbit)was sat in the pouring rain waiting to come in. The storm had blown the tarpaulin off his hutch and his door was open. He was drenched and freezing the poor little mite.
Bundled him in towels and got him infront of the fire, and our german sheperd Amber spent the morning licking him and trying to mother him, he soon perked up but I havn`t got the heart to put him back in his hutch while the weather is so bad and he is more than happy with his makeshift home, run of the house and his adopted mum Amber!

Awwwww bless little Gimli, sounds like a trip to the pet store and a new posh hutch is needed for that rabbit

Ahh.. keep your eye on him and make sure his eyes or nose aren't running and he isn't drooling. If he is doing either of these things, take him straight to the vets. Don't put him back out straight away if you keep him indoors for a while, and if you do put him back out put him out around 1-2 in the afternoon (warmest part of the day) so that the heat won't shock him too much. Watch the dog with him because even though they can play happy families whilst Mummy and Daddy are watching, once you're gone the dog may decide to eat the bunny. Have you bunny proofed the room/s your keeping him in? All it will take will be for him to chew one wire and he'll be dead.

his hutch is brand new but you may be right about trip to petshop to get him some goodies and a new tarpaulin before he goes back in it!

=] Get a padlock for the door of his hutch too (one with a key, to stop animals and humans getting in)

thanks for the tips on what to look out for bobbybunny, I thought I`d keep him indoors for a few days just to be on the safe side cos he was freezing, The dog dosn`t get left alone with him, she`s quite nice and gentle when hes sat still but I just know that if he was running around it would be a different story(she has that glint in her eye)!
And we are bunny proof as Gimli comes in regularly to play with the kids, I think thats why he knew to wait by the back door.
bought a decent hasp and staple today for security aswell!

Good.. I'm glad you don't leave the dog alone with him, my dog is fine with my little one, peanut, but I just know if Peanut was to bite her or chase her she'd snap at him and cause some serious damage.

You should be glad he came to the door and didn't go for a wander around. A lot of buns will look for food, or if they're not neutered they'll look for a mate!

You're so lucky he waited outside the door. My dearly departed outdoor buns would have just scarpered.

hehe a friend of mine has a big bunny that has free run of his garden and petshop and he also has two dogs.

One of the dogs looks like the type who would eat a bunny whole but she just chases him and then runs away from him and then chases him... etc. etc. and they go on and on all day chasing eachother.

he`s escaped from his run before and just sat on top of it, think he`s a homing rabbit, but main thing is he`s ok. He`s very snugged up in his little hotel and i think he`s bedded down for the night bless him. We`ll be spoiling him rotten to get him over it!

He won't be down for the night yet, rabbits are awake at dawn and dusk, so he'll be up for a while yet. My Peanut is up from about seven am til about 1 and then sleeps til seven and is up from seven at night til 1 in the morning. =]

i have a bunny and 2 guineas and stupidly have a cross greyhound and a cross staffi! they obviously have the instinct for small animals so i have got everything secure so there is no chance that the dogs can get to them!

Well Gimli had a lovely nights kip and this morning he looks fit and well and is running around like he owns the place.
Moved him into the spare room for a couple of days so I can keep an eye on him and pamper him a bit!

Awwww

Savbaby, always keeping an eye on them even though they totally love each other (like my Bobby and my doggy Bracken did) I would NEVER leave them alone together - dogs are clever enough to realise that they will bear the brunt of your anger if they snap at the bunny while you're there, but obviously they know that if you're not there they can pretend it wasn't them. Whether they see the bun as a friend or not, they will also instinctively see him as food.
