Unfortunately, it's just the normal run of things for this time of year - a viral illness with synptoms like the common cold / sore throat. I was off colour last weekend - cold symptoms, sore throat, and this afternoon it's come back a little.

Wait for severe earache and sinus problems. Heard it is a vile little virus and taking some shifting.

I think I have just finally shaken it off, It started mid december, just after the woodseats meet.
First I had throat problems and just about lost my voice, then it seemed to get better, for a week or so before having congestion and tiredness, and lots of runny nose, before a tickly throat, and sneezing, then finally a fever type thing the other night, but I have felt fine the last couple of days after a red hot curry with loads of garlic bread.
I have had loads of homework to do over the christmas break, but I have hardly touched it because I couldn't concentrate..

Vitamin C is what you need...
500mg's per day, every day - the chewable variety.
1000mg's if you feel that you 'may' be getting a cold/flu/cough, until the feeling subsides.
Not had a cold for 3 months now (and thats being around people who are full of it) I now swear by it!
For the cost of a pint, you can get well stocked up.

Additionally, if anyone feels that 500mg per day is excessive, maybe a higher doseage is required just over the winter months. Come Summer I may step down to 250mg's.

Absolutely spot on! Swear by it myself. Havent had a bad cold for a very long time since I've been taking them. Your body cannot be overloaded with Vit C, it just absorbs what it needs and discards the rest.

Yes I have just come down with it yesterday. Could hardly stand up last night and this morning due to dizziness etc. Seems to be clearing a bit now (I only feel a bit ill now!) but had to take day of work. Cant remember the last time I was this ill! A few people at work said they had had it over christmas and it was nasty

I've found that "First Defence" stuff has managed to stave off any colds I've felt coming on. My girlfriend swears by Echinacea, but she's had 2 colds in the last month....

I've had it too but am now ok just got the residual problems with my sinuses (which is rather painful).
It isn't flu it's a cold/virus but it is very nasty, I was 'coming down' with it and generally under the weather for 2 to 3 weeks before it came properly.

its not just in sheffield, my family in somerset have been hit really badly with this and its doing the rounds up here too!
I take multivitamins everyday and have done since my boss told me too at start of last year, i was fine up until boxing day and a cold hit, it passed and i feel fine now. I must admit it was not as bad as it normally is (even though i winged just as much!) and i put this down to my vitamins.

Everyone at our work has a cold too, I can cope with that, usual cold, (nights a bit of a nightmare, waking up gasping for fluid), but what strikes me as weird is the amount of people who have mentioned their ears.
My ears have been 'popped' for about 3 days on and off, I've never experienced this before with cold/flus. (annoying as hell too)
