If anyone fancies one last walk to see out the year on Sunday 31st December 2006, then let me know. I ought to walk off a bit of that Christmas excess
Obviously, it'll be nothing too strenuous, possible routes are either the 5 Weirs (nicely central), or maybe up to Dam Flask/Bradfield. If you fancy anywhere else, feel free to make suggestions!
It'll be a morning/lunchtime walk, so there'll be plenty of time for you to get back for those New Year celebrations.

Awww Feargal, you should have said earlier before I got on the plane, cos I might not have left if I`d `ve known what you were planning! And if you believe that, you`ll believe owt!
Anyway, just to let you Walking friends know, I got here eventually, in the early hours of this morning after a 22 hour day with unbelievable security hold-ups and red tape issues. Can`t believe the stuff they took off me at Gatwick....essential items I brought for the folks here that you can`t in the USA like jars of curry and asda choccie spread lol. Spoilsports!
Oh and just to rub in the fact that I`m slumming it over here, its an absolutely gorgeous morning in Kentucky. Its 8.30, the suns shining over the fields, and its @ 3c with a slight overnight frost. I`m sat typing this looking out of the dining room window at a horse thats apparently waiting for me to ride it (aagh) and then in a short while I`m going to be doing some work on the farm. (Unpaid labouring) There`s miles of potential walking country to check out, beer in the fridge, and my good lady at my side. Tough life uh?
Enjoy your walk, and your New Years celebs. See y`all mid Jan!

Sorry to but in, but just wondered if the walkers group has an 'official' leader yet? The designation has been removed from the top of the front page, and I haven't heard anything yet. Just curious .

Nope. Not heard a squeak!
Our thread titles go unedited and our plans are awash with loose cannons. It's chaos, I tell you, chaos!

It is indeed happening BlankFrack!
Meet at 11.30 am at Lady's Bridge (across from the Tap & Barrel pub), Sunday 31st December.
Meaks' suggestion of the 5 Weirs Walk, and canal stroll back sounds very nice indeed. For anyone wanting to do a shorter walk, you can join us for the 5 Weirs part, then hop on a bus or tram at Meadowhall back into town. Whichever option, we'll be home in time for those New Year celebrations to start.
See you all there - we might even be getting a visit from the Taxman!

See you there!
It should be nice and easy going, the canal is a little muddy in parts so don't be wearing your party frocks.

Count me in, I only live down the road and never been the whole distance on the 5 Wiers.
Is there many pubs along the way ?
