A few years ago when i was at my old address i was constantly getting phone calls asking for Gary Oakley.
Apparently it was suppose to be his bank calling.
Never had any at all at the address im at now as obviously my phone number had changed.
But low and behold today i had one.
This woman always asks for Mr Oakley ,or Gary Oakley.
I asked how she got my number and she said from his bank details.
She then repeated the number that was on his details and it was mine.
I obviously dont think for one minute that this is a coincidental mistake each time, so whats going on.
Cant see it being a joke to do with the website below, not all these years.
always number withheld but then a bank would anyway.
Anyone else had anything similar.
What kind of scam is this.?

Maybe he gave your number in error and the bank have been chasing him all this time not making contact but being too stupid to update their records. Problem solved!

Not so, as remember my other address had a completely different phone number.
Cant really see Gary Oakley giving both my exact different phone numbers
each time by error.
So the mystery goes on.
Wonder if Bt would be helpful in trying to find out
where the calls come from. etc.

Did you explain this to the bank? Don't give any other information though as it might not be a bank. I think they would look in to it as sounds very suspicious. Alternatively, maybe you go sleep walking in the night and sign up for bank accounts under the name Gary Oakley? It's possible

Welcome to the board, Gary. Didn't your brother used to sing in the Human League?

Ha Ha people.
But whats not so funny is during the last two days ive been having tsb computerised voices asking for Katherine somebody or other to press a key to contact them about her account.
Im going to go to my bank and sort it out.
As mines tsb.
I darent press that key as im scared it might be a scam where you get charged when you ring through to a number.

Don't want to hijack your thread Tara, but can I put out a plea,
Since I moved into this address I daily get phone calls for someone called Mark Trainer, if Mark Trainer is on SF would he please stand up.
The calls are from abroad and sometimes 2/3 times a day.
The call sign says unobtainable so I presume it's a call centre abroad

I take it the calls has stopped, as if not, its been a long 3 years.

I get these calls too. For a Mr or Mrs Nunns.
I tell them everytime there has never been anyone at this address and they give my an address at Whirlow (which is not where I live) but they have my phone number. They say they will change their info but I still get these calls.

I recently upgraded my mobile phone through vodafone and they insisted on giving me a free sim with free calls and texts. As I am low user its not that much use to me, but I put in my old mobile handset and decided to leave it in my car for emergencies. Since doing this I have had numerous missed calls and texts for a Sarah Berry - all the calls are from Scotland and mostly her bank but others too.

It remids me a bit of that old debt collection scam, where they put a deliberately wrong name with it, to make you ring back, then spring on your that they are actually looking for Mr Zgierny.
Don't suppose it can be though, if you are actually talking to them.

Just to say old phone numbers do get recycled and given out again after a while so that could be what's happened in some cases.
