This is in response to all you miserable car drivers out there who seem to moan on and on and on and on about people who ride bikes
1. Are you going to charge a3 year old tax? thats about the age that the smallest bikes are made for!
2. Do you actually care about the enviroment? Every person on a bike is one less car on the road so the air you breathe is cleaner because of those people you like to moan about so much!
3. Try it you may like it, especially when you can get to where your going faster than all the people stuck in a traffic jam. I love seeing the faces of them all stuck in their cars as I zoom past on my bike.
4. Everyone breaks laws from time to time, show me a motorist that says they have never broken any motoring laws and I will show you a liar.
5. Stop moaning! Its boring have you not got something better to do with your lives?

I spent years driving cars and snarling at cyclists, then a few years ago I got rid of the car and bought a mountain bike. At first I didnt use it- I have horrible eyesight but last summer I got it out of mothballs and rode it along the country lanes out here.
Everybody should give cycling a try, its brilliant, its fun and its healthy.

PS. I cycle from time to time - and drive. Do what you like, break all the laws you like - just dont moan about it when you get mangled on the road for cycling like a twit.

Bikes certainly are not good for the environment at the moment. An increase in cycling would be much worse for the environment in the short term unless drastic action is taken. For every bike journey there will be several, sometimes hundreds of cars which are delayed, even if this is only by seconds for each one. This means braking and driving in low gear before qucikly overtaking. This all adds up to being much worse for the environment and would be much worse if there was a sudden increase in bikes on our busy, narrow, streets.
For bikes to make a difference we have to change the infrastructure so that this doesn't happen and we have to have an economy that doesn't rely on vast numbers of people travelling to and from city centres each day, at the same time, and then driving to out of town shops and supermarkets. If you take a walk along Attercliffe Road, for example, you will see many large old shops from a time when you could get everything you needed without going to a city centre or Meadowhell. I live in a residential area and yet my nearest greengrocer (other than a supermarket) is 2.5 miles away, so I can't just nip on my bike to the shops and be back in ten minutes.

And I love seeing the smug look drop from a cyclists face when I filter past them on a bike with an engine

I dont jump red lights, mount the pavement, undertake, or turn without indicating. Cyclists do all those and more.

If that's a response to DonK's post about 98 tonnes of prehistoric wood going into every gallon of fuel, then I think he has it just about right.

All the prehistoric wood and oil being used up so quickly.
Even more reason to get to Antarctica and pillage that. The dump is crying out for development.

So actually producing a single-seater Mountain Bike is carbon neutral is it, Halibut? I think not.
Now, making a four-seater mountain bike, or even a 56-seat double-decker version is worthy of thinking about.

I made this thread as a response to almost constant moaning by people about cyclists, and when did I say I rode like a twit? When your out on your bike you have to watch every car to make sure they are not driving like a twit and are about to squash you, need the reactions of a cat to ride a bike down the road! If I was moaning about the way people drive cars my fingers would fall off from typing so much!

You did not say you rode like a twit, I’ll vouch for that! But you probably do! Unless of course you always wear a helmet, you make sure that your front and rear lights and brakes work before you go out on it, and when you do venture to ride out you remember that RED means stop to both motorised transport and pedal-power, and further bear in mind that when you see a cycle lane you should use it because it was built for you, and engineered for your safety.

And as a P.S., one-way streets mean all transport goes in the same direction.

My brakes work my lights work i dont go through red lights my bike runs better than most because I have worked in bike shops for years I dont go down one way roads the wrong way and I dont see why I should wear a helmet, its a choice and I choose not to. Do you never break the speed limit? have you ever overtaken a cyclist only to turn left infront of them and make them brake? do you leave enough room? instead of driving at 40 2 inces from the edge of their bars! do you always indicate even when there is no one around? Do you beep your horn at cyclist if they are riding 2 abreast even though it says in the highway code that they can? If you assume that I ride like a twit I too can assume you drive like a twit like 90 percent of car drivers I unfortuatley have to encounter every day.
