I saw the front of the Star today and was reading the story about the Drugs dad who abandoned his toddler in Argos, I noticed that they had printed the fathers name which is fair enough, but also his 2 year old daughters name and where they live. I think this is out of order to name a child, its bad enough that she was abandoned and has a drug addict father.
What do people think about this???

Emailed the star and their response was laughable, they say they cannot see how naming this child can cause any harm as 2 year olds do not read the star!!! The judge granted permission for the child to be named so they are not in the wrong

You could have a point there.
I think that it is wrong for the childs name and address to be printed.

Drugs dad abandons tot in shop
A TERRIFIED two-year-old girl was left alone in Sheffield city centre after her junkie father forgot about her and wandered off.
Staff at the Sheffield Argos store had to calm the abandoned toddler down after she was found sobbing and distraught.
Her 35-year-old father Robert Crookes only realised he had forgotten his daughter four hours later when she was being cared for by police, Sheffield Crown Court heard.
He was yesterday jailed for two-and-a-half years after admitting neglecting a child.
Ian Goldsack, prosecuting, said Crookes, of Spring Close Dell, Gleadless, took the youngster into town in August.
He said: "Staff in the Argos shop in the city became aware of a young child sobbing and distraught. She was Casey Crookes, the two-year-old daughter of this defendant. They tried to calm her down and clean her face. A tannoy announcement was made and a member of staff went round the store with Casey in the hope her parents could be found."
They came within yards of Crookes but he still failed to notice her.
At 5.30pm as the store was closing staff contacted the police.
CCTV footage showed Crookes entering the store with his daughter then trying to unscrew a jewellery cabinet. He was asked to leave when the store closed and did so - without his daughter, the court heard.
He later contacted police - but only to tell them he had been robbed of a PlayStation outside a city centre pub.
Mr Goldsack said Casey had no identification with her and was unable to tell officers who she was or where she lived because of her age.
At 8.50pm police received a telephone call from Crookes' mother asking whether they had heard anything about a young girl who had gone missing.
Cassie Williams, defending, said Crookes had no recollection of being in the store.
He had taken heroin at 11am then gone to visit relatives in Gleadless with Casey. They went into town and Crookes had left Argos and been the victim of a robbery before going to his mother's house when he realised Casey was no longer with him.
"He felt disgusted, she should have been his main priority," she said. "He is thoroughly ashamed and shocked about what happened."
Crookes also admitted stealing a £650 car stereo from a vehicle parked in Pitsmoor and selling it for £40 drug money.
Judge Simon Lawler QC told him: "You went out with your two-year-old child and you were under the influence of drugs. The account which I have heard from the court when she was found wandering about in the store makes for disturbing hearing indeed. You brought the matter on yourself. These matters are so serious only a custodial sentence is justified.
"The public will be quite outraged."

On a related issue
In yesterdays Sun, on the front page was a picture of the boy Maddonna is adopting.
Because of the recent laws on not being allowed to take photos of children without first getting permission, was that another illegal act by The Sun ,or did the paper get permission from Maddona or the childs legal guardian?
I have to admit that I wont read the Sun ( I just saw the front page in the pub).

Yeah well on that note Savbaby, BUTT out you are not in Sheffield so dont try stirring things up when you obviously dont care anyway, there ARE some people on this forum that do care about local issues, find a local forum closer to home and then you might know what you are talking about.
