now we live in a modern society with a cosmopolitan make up of people, architecture and attractions.

so why can i shop for some things 24 hours, get a kebab @ 2.30am and shop online all the time.
however all the things that rely on either my money to exist or tax payers money/lottery funding close as soon as i finish work.

weston park museum, millenium galleries etc why do they close @ 5pm.
that leaves saturday & sunday for all the workers and their children to do the visiting.
which means 50% of us can't be bothered to queue in traffic and round the attractions.

Cost, I should think. As a general rule, when people go shopping at 2am, they're buying stuff and the supermarket makes money. A museum that was open at 2am would have to raise its admission fees by a massive amount to cover the increased costs of being open at that time. Given that a lot of these places don't even HAVE admission fees, that's hardly an option.

Fair point staffing these venues at whats considered 'unsocial hours' would mean staff quite rightly expecting unsocial hours pay, and that cost would have to be recouped from somewhere. Perhaps a 'late evening' opening once a week in the week would be a compromise.

I agree with this, many shops have late night openings once or twice a week so it wouldn't be that difficult surely for other places to do it.

To be fair i agree about having things open later but in the end it would be a bad thing.
the people working at these unsociable hours wouldnt be able to be courtias and happy all the time working at 2.30 am in the morning when all they want is there bed, sounds a little dodgy this one.

how about open until 8 or 9, that way you could go straight from work.
i'd even be happy to pay for the pleasure.
3 or 4 times i've met the S.O at 5ish waiting to see a show @ 7.30,we have to prolong our posh meal to last 2 hours.(even i cant eat MacD's that slow)
