A-level results are coming out next week (!) and I need AAB to get into Uni of Sheffield. I've known people to get really bad grades and still manage to talk their way into their chosen Uni.
So I was wondering.. if this does happen to me.. does anyone have any tips on how I could "blag" a place at Sheffield? Or even better, if you've had this experience, what did you say to persuade the admissions tutors?

Sorry, but I thought they'd have already decided before you phone them? Depends on other people's grades and decisions - there's a set number of people they can admit.
I applied for an admissions job but didn't get it, otherwise I'd have tried to hack the system for you
I'm pretty sure you'd just be talking to a student when you phone.
Good luck.

Sorry, to tell you this but Sheffield University gets very few of it's students via clearing as it is one of the most applied to universitys in the country.
Having said that a lot does depend on the course you are applying for, and how the other candidates you are competing with have performed.
Good luck.

If you just miss your grades you may well bo ok - depending on what course you are applying for. This happened to me and I came out with a first so the university probably made the right decision letting me in!
It used to be the case that Sheffield were more likely to let people in who wanted to come to Sheffield but had slightly missed the grades rather than resort to clearing.
I'm not sure about blagging but depending on your course there may be some opportunity to talk to the person concerned and give reasons for your low a level grades.
Thanks for the replies guys. I know it's unlikley that they'll make a snap decision over the phone, and as you've said they've probably decided before as they get our grades earlier. It's just if it ever did happen I want to make sure I have something good to say as I have no insurance choice!
