Anyone out there know how Effingham Road used to look
I`m based there at A C dismantlers and would love to find out the history of this and other buildings in the area.

Have you seen the memorial (set in the wall, of what used to be Cocker Bros.) to the 29 men, women and children killed in the German Zeppelin raid on Sheffield, in September 1916.

Yes, thats the one.

I can remember, as a kid in the late 60's, they would hold a sevice on rememberance day (I'm guessing) with the salvation army and singing. Most of the road would be blocked with the crowd of people, how times have changed.

Hiya glynn
I remember seeing some of the names of the casualties, in a book somewhere. I'll try to get the brain into gear this week and find where I saw them.

Does anyone know if there are any photos of the Baltic public house that was on Effingham Street attercliffe anywhere? When I was born I was living there with my mum and dad, it was run by grandad Thorpe then, and my now 85 year old mum would like a photo of it.
cheers Ray.

Appreciate this thread is now six years old, but if anyone still needs the names in the 'Roll of Honour' for the victims of the raid, it can be found here -

http://www.brigantian.force9.co.uk/roh.html

and more info about the raid here -
