When did this occur to you?
It has been several decades of problems with people taking vehicles.
My motorcycle was brazenly stolen from in front of a shop 18 years ago when I popped in for 2 minutes on city road. Previously the same vehicle was stolen from me on west street and it broke down, and the police found it. 2 years before my dad had his car radio stolen at ecclesall.
Sadly there is nothing new.
It is just harder to steal vehicles for the everyday opportunist.

I have gotten so pee'd off with the namby pamby attitude of the government when sorting this detritus out, that I honestly don't think I would offer any assistance in the event of a joyride wrapping himself around a tree (or any other lowlife in danger of death)... even if I was the only other person present. They aren't worth the effort, and they certainly aren't worth the consideration afforded to others.
The sooner they are wiped out the better. Yes, a cull would do the job.
There we are, a suggestion. One suggestion more than any government minister is capable of making, and a valid suggestion until anyone can come up with a better one that doesn't involve the decent folk paying out for, or putting up with, these scum.
Oh, and a message to the scumbag who is in hospital ........ suffer long and hard you piece of crap. Don't die too soon, just hurt a little longer.

Then I think we can safely assume that would put a stop to thoughtless killings altogether.
Calling for a cull ain't too clever.

Distraught Kenneth Maskrey collapsed beside his 74-year-old wife Margaret's body, screaming out her name in anguish as she lay slumped on the pavement outside City Road cemetery."
And the story continues in a similar vein. 2 brainless idiots - one 19, one 21 - so they were old enough to know better - riding along at the kerb's edge at ridiculous speeds on a stolen bike have shattered this guy's life. 54 years they'd been together and he sees his wife killed like this, with her leg severed. He is never going to be the same again, it's a wonder the shock hasn't killed him too. I defy anyone to read that story and not ache for that poor man and his family.
And then on page 7, we have the 'cheeky' youths giving the mayor and senior police officials 'backchat' while sitting on a wall waiting for someone else to provide them with something to do to stop them being bored. Obviously they don't have the brainpower to find something for themselves. And soon they'll be like the morons on the motorbike, ruining other innocent people's lives. How much longer do we have to put up with this? How much longer do people who work hard and wouldn't dream of harming others have to live in fear of workshy, violent, brainless ferals whose only contribution to society is to breed more like themselves to sponge off the rest of us. How much longer do we have to wait for punishments harsh enough to deter these little scrotes? It needs to stop but no-one with any power has the guts to say so.

I fear my cup is half empty and we can do no more than lie down and take it like the bitches we are! Society has dwindled... go to bed and we will all feel better in the morning!
I can't add nothing more ... nothing less, I feel we can't do anything about it at present..... apart from all end up in jail!

Gosh Saxon, you're a hard one aren't you? Hope you're very good at telling which people are 'useless layabout scum' just by looking at them.
It's a crap suggestion.

I agree with everyone's sentiments and would happily throw the switches or pull the handles that wipe the scum out,....... but .......and it's a big but. We all know that it won't happen. None of the main 3 political parties have the courage to change things that drastically. Despite all the words he's spoken over the last few years Tony Blair has done absolutely nothing to make punishment harder, or to make the jails places to be feared. In fact his party have started releasing more prisoners early. And neither David Cameron nor Menzies Campbell will do anything either so don't build your hopes up.
What amazes me is that they keep bleating on about how the prisons are full. Well forgive me for being a bit obvious, but, why not build some more.
Until punishments are severe, until there's an obvious deterrent , the scum will walk the earth.

It's not about having the courage to change things that drastically. It's about ridiculous ideas like culling people who are deemed to be stupid or scum being impractical, unethical and downright stupid. Who makes the decisions? How do you reconcile the mass killing of a group of people with a supposedly civilised society? Yes, I agree with punishment, and think that often it's the case that the victims of crime are given less thought than the perpetrators. But seriously, a mass pogrom of supposed 'undesirables' has more than a whiff of Nazi Germany about it.
And Pitsmoorlad - where is the money to build, staff and maintain the prisons going to come from? Do you want to pay more taxes or take money away from our already overburdened education and health systems?

It's always down to money at the end of the day *sighs* If we get more criminals off the streets and keep the public safe then I would be willing to pay just that little extra tax. Safety is far more important that wealth....just incase you forgot.

We can't build enough prisons to house them, but a nice cheap and unforgettable punishment is caning them in public and/or putting them on the chain gang. Just imagine the howls of derision as they're made to weed motorway verges or tidy up the Peace Gardens with shackles around their wrists and ankles and chains threaded through them. And lets be sick. How about a little ridicule like playing them the Sam Cooke hit "Chain Gang" as they hack away at the undergrowth, watched over by prison officers with fearsome-looking dogs.

No offence but that is just stupid, that's the sort of thing from Medevil times. It would more than likely cause rebel more than anything.

They started putting them on the chain gang in the US around 15 years ago, and you can see them tidying up the verges alongside the interstate highways. And crime has been falling in the US. But then, punishing them at all is a plain stupid idea to do-gooder lily livered liberals like yourself. What do you suggest? Giving them a group hug?

I agree with what you say, but then is the alternative to release them early ?
The sad facts are that at one time criminals used to dread going to prison, now it seems that it's looked on as a career break. Until someone is brave enough to bring in punishments that act as a deterrent, then we will have to put up with car stealing, mugging, and teenage scrotes thinking that they can take whatever and whenever they want. No matter how much people may want hanging / flogging / castrating, (2 of which are a little extreme in my opinion), someone entrusted with authority needs to make the first move, and they won't.

The Penal system of the U.S work's with U.S. citizens, incase you didn't notice but the British and the Americans are 2 very different kind of people. That sort of thing would not work here. I never suggested a "group hug". What I suggest is what you really don't want cause it means "oh noes more tax" well what a shame, tell you what you have that extra £10 a month so that some scum can mug you for it when that dumbass could have been in prison. Think about that before getting sarcastic please, and be realistic.
