I have just got the keys to my new home (not brand new, but new to me).
We noticed a telewest box (white square on wall with two metal plug things coming out of bottom) in the corner of the room where you would normally expect a tv aerial to be. Is this for the TV instead of an aerial? Is it cable? Never had one before. What do I need to do? Is it worth it?

If it is a Telewest cable socket then you will need a set top box to receive anything. If you plug your TV into it you won't get anything at all. In fact I doubt if a standard coaxial cable will fit.
Yes Yellowrose, you have cable but these days when someone leaves a residency, Telewest tend to disconnect the cable (99% of the time). Give them a ring and they'll sort you out. I've added this since I presume you might want to have a telephone at the house. If that's the case, you can get the phone line and free digital cable tv from Telewest
