can anyone help please? i have an 11 yr old, just gone up to secondary school. hes asking me for a buss pass, not the kind you use for school runs if you live out of a certain radius but to prove hes only 11 when the driver insists on him paying full fare because he looks so much older.
dont want him carrying birth cert/passport around with him but cant think of a way round this.
i dont know where to start!!
were in sheffield 12 if thats anythin to go on.

You need to go to the bus station, take a couple of passport size photos with you and they will give you, or maybe it might cost a fiver or so a bus pass for him..I had same problem and got into no end of rows with bus drivers who in effect were calling me a liar when I told them that my son was only 13.

first one is issued free of charge - should he lose it, it's £5

You know the travel place near the Crucible, that little glass building. Go in there and tell them the problem and they will probably give you a pass for your son if you have some passport photos handy.

you need to go to one of the SYPTE travel information centres where the pass will be issued there and then. your son needs to be with you (to sign the card), and you must take proof of his DOB, address & a passport photo. (medical card is ideal as it has both). the website i gave you before has details of twhere the travel centres are... in sheff they are: Interchange, Cambridge St (off Pinstone St) and also Exchange St (bottom of Castle Markets where PTE head offices are). The pass is valid on bus/train/tram in south yorks - all companies. it shows the driver/inspector that he is entitled to the concessionary fare of 40p

The interchange a Meadowhall also do them if that is closer.

Most of the SYPTE Travel Information Centres will do it, and there's their 'head office' on Exchange Street.

Don't go to a specific Operating company, as these passes are a SYPTE issued invention that can be used on any service - bus or tram - to prove age.

as far as I'm aware, Arundel Gate is literally just travel information, rather than pass issuing

monthly/yearly don't have to go through the computer system, they're just saleable. very similar to the one at Hillsborough. Admittedly it's a few years since I worked for the PTE but that's how it used to be. Concessionary passes had to be from one of the main TICs

Arundel Gate will definitely NOT issue a MegaTravel Pass.

Someone needs to learn the rules of bus travel. If your son was 13, he would be required to pay full fare, unless he has a pass.

Children under 11 travel for a child's fare. Children between 11 and 16 must have a pass, or pay the adult fare. Telling the bus driver you're only 13 doesn't make one iota of difference.
