i regularly drive over there.
once with old friends we even use to wait till it was clear, winows down get and when about 100 yards from bridge, turn engine off! never heard anything though lol.
The sotrys ive heard are there is a Monks building used to be there then the bypass goes strait over part of it.
Also a play ground.
Suposably ther eis sightings of people stodd on the bridge looking down at cars also.
Never personally seen anything on the bypass my self, but i do belive there there!

*sigh* Stocksbridge bypass has been done and done, and done again...
I have been up there myself with a team many times, and many different teams..
the last time I was up there, we heared the 'children', or atleast what could be described as a group of children singing.... we had a sound beacon so we could pinpoint (to whin 1 meter) where sound was coming from, 1/2 of us wanted to go and look what the sound was, and the other 1/2 decided to be scared and wanted to go home... sufficed to say we ended up leaving...
I dont know when i'll be up there again, or IF, as there's so many groups doing it, and its been done so many times already i'd rather concentrate on other places for the time being..

Been reading these comments - travel on the stretch of road and under Pea Royd bridge regularly and know about the 'sightings' etc. Travel all over the country and this stretch always seems 'odd'. Never seen anything myself but can't get my head around the number of road accidents within 1 or 2 miles of the bridge. Is the actual number of deaths (let alone injuries) now up to 14 since the road opened? It was officially opened on a Friday 13th!! - Good planning or what? The accident rate must be some sort of a very sad record no-one wants on such a relatively shortl stretch of road? There was a problem with speed until the cameras went up and thankfully the death toll has reduced dramatically. I notice when reported a lot of the accidents involve outsiders to the area - possibly using the road for the 1st time? When passing the bridge and regularly seeing waggons parked for drivers' to sleep over night - I often think 'if they only knew'!! Also seems barmy to me that in my humble opinion the safest parts are now lit leaving the dodgy bits without and the design of the 3 lanes on the hills seem to court disaster! The now hatched solid white lines on the 3 lane bits mean you can't overtake although some folks either don't know this or want to meet the monk prematurely? By the way - try weighing up the white lines in snow or heavy rain - poor design me thinks?

I didnt know there use to be a playground! A friend of mine went up to the bypass with a carful of friends, parked up for a while and switched the engine off. After about 10 minutes they heard a child giggling from next to the car, looked out of the window just in time to see a flash of grey mist "run" infront of the car bonnet then disappear! After the mist had dissappeared they heard laughing again, but this time it was more than just one child, more like 3 or 4.

It was on a programme a while ago about the monks building/grounds suposably like roche abby in maltby.
also a playfield kind of area, hence children playing are heard.
the signtings of the monks, are normaly of a monk walking down the side of the road. And it has been known that only half of the monks body can be seen, due to the ground has been raised to support the bypass.
This was all off a programme i watch a while ago and a few peple i know who have worked up on the bypass quite regularly.

Kids dancing round a maypole is one of many ghostly signings seen up and around Pearoyd Bridge.
A local historian found evidence of an accident up near the bridge in bygone days. The kids had been on a school outing then the horsedrawn carriage they were in went out of control and crashed killing about 5 children out of the party onboard.

Travel this way 2 or 3 times a week to see family
a few years ago once saw a figure at side of road near the bridge that goes over where the monk supposed to appear, was just stood looking at the road, with a hood up and looks scruffy, may have been a tramp but who knows....
I asked my (now former) wife just after we passed if she saw something and she said I was gonna ask you too, thought we were goin daft
My late grandad was brought up in a farm close to where the bypass is now, and even at the turn of the century there were reports of hearing children playing
