Why have Sheffield council put tarmack over the cobbles in Sheffield? They must have spent a fortune in the city centre , ie fargate to have the cobble affect, yet in the back street you can see the cobbles under the worn out tarmack.
Is it just one of the many mistakes they have made in terms of maintaining the heritage of this city?

No it certainly isn't - our road was one of the last to have the cobbles covered in tarmac and everybody was pleased they no longer had to drive up a steep cobbled road to get to their houses, not to mention they were a nightmare in icy weather.

Burton Street in Hillsborough is cobbled, almost all the way except where repairs have been made.

surely it's better than digging them up and losing them forever at least they are still there for when they come back into fashion
