I am very confused about this....bought my son a Disney Interactive CD Rom game (he has many others and never once have we had a problem).

Minimum System Requirements are

Microsoft® Windows® 95/98/Me/XP

Pentium™ II class processor, 266 MHz or faster

32MB RAM or greater

30MB free uncompressed hard disk space (minimum)

250MB free uncompressed hard disk space (recommended)

8X speed CD-ROM drive

16-bit DirectX-compatible sound card

8MB video card with 3D acceleration, 16-bit colour depth, DirectX 8-compatible

Java-compatible Web Browser (e.g. Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape Navigator 4.08 or later)

DirectX 8.0 (included)

Which are the exactly the same as a Rugrats Movie game he has....

but when I try to install it a box pops up saying....

Some components do not appear to meet the minimum allowable system requirements for this game. The program may or may not play on your computer system.

Never had this before - now the cellophane packing is removed I won't even be able to take it back for a refund!!

Bugger!!

Right I think I have worked this out but still cant understand why this is happening...

I recently replaced the Dvdrw to This One but the system checker I have just looked at says my CD-ROM speed is only 5x when minimum required is 8x !!

Now I am puzzled!!!

Can I improve this ???

Is the Drive faulty???

Advice please!

Bah, this kind of thing is part of the reason why I gave up on PC gaming years ago

If his pooter won't run a simple Disney game, he's got buckley's of running a proper game...

Every time a new game comes out, the fuffing spec requirements DOUBLE nearly

Not to mention the fact that even in this day and age of patches for everything, not all software or hardware works 100% accurately under Windows XP in my experience, especially anything released pre-1995.

So when you get the message saying it may or may not play on this machine, I take it that's as far as it goes, i.e. it doesn't.

Have you tried looking on tehir website to see if there's a patch or update at all?

In our experience some kids games seem to play OK under XP and others are a nightmare, but certainly in one case we got in touch with the manufacturer and they sent us an updated disc.

a possible fix might be this software

http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/down...tegory&catid=5

basically its a totally free application, that is spyware free, and lets you basicall run any iso without the disc physically in the tray.

follow this tut for making an iso of your disc

http://www.cynicsunlimited.com/2006/...shrink-5-of-6/

you must first find the dvd decryptor software though

*hint* google

Hi thanks for your help guys - I managed to correct this by downloading the latest firmware for the driver and everything is now working to speed.
