I'm organising a Love Music Hate Racism night at Sheffield Uni on 14th October we're going to be playing mainly hip-hop and ska plus whatever's in between the two, DJs will be from Phonetics and Quoi de neuf?

Most details are sorted I just can't decide whether to just call it 'love music hate racism' or something else a bit more interesting maybe along the lines of 'Racism: Skank it out', though we can’t have that because some other bugger already thought of it also it’s not a predominantly ska night.

So anyway anyone got any ideas?

Well lots of people seem to like ‘Love Music Hate Racism’ and nobodies come up with anything better so ‘Love Music Hate Racism’ it is.

The major details of the night have now been confirmed:

Where: The Raynor Lounge, University Of Sheffield Student Union
When: 9pm – 2am, Saturday 14th October
Entry: £3 advance (from the union box office) £3.50 door
DJs: Phonetics DJs (with full line up to be confirmed later) and Mat S, Jess the Cat and SJC Projects of Quoi de Neuf?
Proceeds go to LMHR & Assist Sheffield.

With hopefully performances by the uni break and street dance groups being organised when they get back from wherever it is they hide in the summer.

What type / wave of ska is going to be played?

It’s mainly going to be a hip-hop night, the ska which does get played will most likely be of the classic Jamaican variety as opposed to British pop-ska or US rock-ska.

So expect stuff more along the lines of the Skatalites, Derrick Harriot and the Maytals rather than Madness or the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

That's an awesome idea, we need more anti-racism events that get all races together!! i think we should have a massive Devonshire Green Fest which is designed to get all the segregated races together from all over Sheffield.
