my beautiful very healthy 16 year old cat sherry has been killed by a dog and im absolutely devastated not to mention fuming .i was getting ready for work at 8pm and i heard what sound like a cat meowing followed by the growl of a dog and some banging..i immediately ran down stairs and shouted her my other cat jasmine came running in all bushy tailed so i just thought the two cats had been fighting like they regualy did.what i thought was weird is a man quickly walked past shouting "GET HERE!" still never thought nothing of it.

at 9am i got a phone call from my mum who was absolutely distraught.a man had walked past and seen sherry laid there on the grass but left her then walked past again an hour later and decided to come tell us i rushed home to find sherry covered in a towel half of her fur missing and shaking with shock.
when i got to the vets i just presumed theyd put her to sleep but the vet wanted to put her on a drip and give her adrenalin and then an xray so we agreed we'd do all we could. and left her there.

within 20 minutes we got the phone call that she'd died just before they put her on the drip

what im soo angry about is the man whos dog did this for one didnt have a dog like that on a lead(a dog that is obviously agressive towards cats!!)and he heard me shouting the cats name and still said nothing, and the fact that hes dragged his dog off and left her there in pain in the middle of the floor like she was nothing.i wish i knew who the man was as i would ;not to mention my mum give him a piece of my mind!!

instead i am left heart broken and feeling so guilty that i didnt no she was hurt. ....god its been such a bad year for my luck with animals my beloved 13 year old yorkie died a couple of months ago not to mention my 17 year old cat rosie having a stroke and dying a couple of months befor that

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about this. My sister's cat was killed in a very similar manner last year- it's the kind of thing that makes your blood boil.

I'm willing you all a hug- I understand that it won't make much difference at the moment.

I'm really sorry to hear this, Jody. I had a cat killed by two dogs years ago. A few weeks later they had hold of my other cat, they didn't kill her but punctured her lung, causing respiritory problems for the rest of her life. It made me petrified to let my next cat out, and for the first two years of her life she was an indoor cat.

Have you contacted the police? Or the RSPCA? They not be able to do anything to help, maybe the dog warden could help.

The dogs that killed our cat (a german sheperd and a jack russel hunting together) killed other cats and rabbits on a regular basis, the police said they were powerless to help (although this was over ten years ago). One of our neighbours put notices up all around the estate and in the shop windows to warn other pet owners.

oh im soo sorry for your loss, made me cry!

totally agree with you re: the man, he sounds horrible! and the dog should def be on a lead

its things like this that make me worry about my own cats even more than i already do!

hope you are ok, make sure you give jasmine some love as shes probably shocked from what she saw, plus cat cuddles will hopefully make you feel better.

big hugs from over here xxx

thanks for all your kind words of support at this difficult time. ive been in a right state at work couldnt stop my eyes welling up. i just hope it isnt the same aggressive dog that made its way into my garden last year and decided to rag my little yorkie dog around the garden.luckily i was in but it certainy was something that i remember vividly.luckily she made it through.guess you just cant predict if an animal will pull through or not with the shock

thanks weenireeni if i ever find the guy in question i will make his life unberable...to leave her lying there only some sick person would do that!cant believe other people walked past too and did nothing ..my first reaction would be to pick it up and rush it to the vets weather it was my animal or not..guess some people just dont think the same way tho.its made me worried about letting my little puppy outside in the garden now not to mention my cat jasmine and my elderly cat fudge

the only 'nice' thing i can think of that man is that he was too scared to tell you, but thats a pathetic excuse, he's like a hit and run driver that doesnt stop.

horrible man!

the only saving grace is that your cat had had 16 years of love and happiness.

in my eyes hes just calous and a waste of space,i wouldnt even have been angry if he'd av come to my house and said "look im ever so sorry my dog has attacked your cat" its just the fact he left her there and probably without a thought or a care .you wouldnt leave a child laid there in pain so y should it be any different with an animal.yes i keep trying to tell my mum that even tho she went in a horrible way at least we were with her in the end hugging and loving her and she didnt die alone

im so sorry, i dont know what to say, your post has almost had me in tears

I cant believe that people are willing to let an animal suffer like that, dog owners should be responsible and keep their dogs on a lead if they are aggressive

This is just so so sad my cat is 17, and it is so distressing for them to get that age and then this happen, my thoughts and love to you.

I hope that man has to face a loss painful to his heart, then maybe he wont be so heartless in the future!

Please know that your cat has now gone to rainbow bridge and will live a happy pain free life with lots of other animals. She will wait for you at Rainbow bridge, carry her soul in your heart until then.

Take care, pain heals with time.

Oh Jody! That's so sad!

Did your cat have any contact details on a collar?

I can't believe this guy could leave an animal to suffer like this

no strix my cat didnt have a collar as she used to pull them off and i didnt see the point as she basically lived in doors she only went out to do her buisness or come for a walk with me while i was walking the dogs

yes there are some nasty people in the world.my mums beating herself up about it because she would have been home from work before 8am but she went to her mates on her way home and therefar sherry would have been in the house and it may not have happened...but we could go on forever saying what if?

it just really doesnt seem like a good year where my animals are concerned thats the 4th animal ive lost in a year

Sometimes.... it helps to believe things like this are part of a bigger plan, that we are not privvy to, and all we can do is wait and see how life works itself out
