I don't know where I got this from, so it may be completely wrong, but I'm sure I once heard that Bob Holness (The guy from Blockbusters) was the first James Bond. From what I can recall he was the voice of Bond on the radio, but was replaced by Lazenby when it went to the big screens. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

I think that's true but Sean Connery was the first (and best) on-screen James Bond.

You forgot David Niven and Woody Allen who both played James Bond in Casino Royale.

I'm only really interested in the modern James Bond films played by Pierce Brosnan. I tried watching some of the older ones and I nearly fell asleep..

Perhaps it depends on your age. I grew up in the 70s when Roger Moore was JB and for me he was the best.

Roger Moore for me but he was great in the saint.
Ian Ogilvy would have been a great choice to do Bond but it never came off.

Well, alot of women whom I speak with don't actually like Bond. They consider the whole idea sexist.

I remember watching a very old Bond film from years ago where Bond had a telephone in his car, it was only a dial up telephone and at the time I thought it was amazing. Shows how technology has developed over the years.

Ok, here is my list in order.

Roger Moore
Sean Connery
Pierce Bronson
George Lazenby
Timothy Dalton

Sean Connery without a doubt! Roger was not a patch, although I did like him, don't get me wrong.
Brosnan is ok, dalton just passed me by.

As for girls not liking bond, well I'm sure there are some, but I would say all my girl mates love bond. In fact two of my mates are obsessed with it and own all the videos and cars, posters the lot! We love the sexism and cheesiness about it, which is why we found the last Bond film a bit disappointing really.

Has the next actor that will play the role of 'James Bond' been confirmed yet? To my knowledge Pierce Brosnan has agreed to definately make one more film, and if he feels up to it with training, routines and such the one after that. There was much speculation over Russel Crowe taking the role a while ago, though I can't see that one working..

Well, if they want a Jane Bond then fine. I myself can't understand why anyone would take it so serious to find it sexist.

I can honestly say that I've never seen a James Bond film in my life

. It just doesn't appeal to me at all.

I always thought RM played james bond as with a knowing wink, and his perma-tan, eyebrow acting never rang my bells. And he didn't smoke cigarettes or look very hard.

SC seemed to me to be much closer to fleming's bond.

Lazenby wore a cardigan in OHMSS for chrissakes

Brosnan is OK, fills the role quite well, a bit suave maybe

Dalton - made every film look like a cheap episode of Dempsey and Makepeace.

Connery is the only Bond that gets close to Fleming's troubled, ruthless Bond. He's got a physical presence on screen that Roger Moore simply doesn't have - he was more a caricature than an on-screen interpretation.

Bond in the books is a great proponent of realpolitik, not afraid to cut corners, and ruthless to the point of bordering on evil. Sean is the only one who even approaches this air of malevolence.

Although I have to say that Pierce Brosnan doesn't do too bad a job, but that might just be because they're trying again to make Bond an anti-hero type.

Ooooh it has to be Pierce for me simply because I am glued to the TV because I fancy him so very much.

Though Sean Connery was fab too.

I always preferred roger moore, although I haven't seen any Piecrce Brosnan ones, and I have never even heard of timothy dalton..

and both played simon templer aka the saint , the roger moore version was far more enjoyable tho

i voted for brosnan but my fave bond films are the 70s ones with roger moore , and what where the producers on when they picked timothy dalton
