Anyone been to the new pasta restaurant on Sharrowvale Rd ? I'd like to know if they do anything other than pasta (or rice) as I can't eat pasta but my wife love it and I'd like to try the restaurant out. Thanks.

We went when it first opened last year and were deeply disappointed. It was so popular, we had to book a couple of weeks in advance and could only get an early table for about an hour. So we felt rushed which probably didn't help. There were more things on the menu other than pasta but we went for the "fresh home-made pasta" since this was what it was all about. Whether this was genuinely home made and/or fresh I dunno but it were foul. For two plates of iffy carbohydrate plus an overpriced bottle of wine, it was in the region of 35 quid. I'd save your dosh and go elsewhere.

I heard a similar story.. they seemed unprepared for the initial burst of interest.

Santinos on Ecclesall Road is usually good (in my honest opinion).

Me and the gf got a takeout from there a few weeks ago and we were quite disappointed.

I had the arrabiata and she had the creamy salmon pasta. Both were very dry, the pasta was very heavy and the sauce on both of them seemed undercooked (not to mention the stingy amount of sauce you got!). We'll stick with the cheap and cheeful italian at the bottom of the road in future! I did like the look of the bruschetta that people were having in the restaurant tho!

Shame you guys didnt enjoy this great little resturant. I've been a couple a times and really enjoyed it. Had a lovely meal there last valantines, the food was great, house wine went down a treat and I enjoyed the atmosphere. Was at lunch time though and was therefore pretty quite, maybe the kitchen dont cope too well when its busy.

If youre lookin for an Itallian try San Lorenzos further up sharrow, its cheaper than Santenos and pretty good. Try the musscles for starter and the Penne Certecina for main - ham n pea pasta in tommatoe sauce mmm.
