is it just me or is tv going from bad to worse what happened to good comedy shows, thrillers, films & good tv series.now all we get is reality shows cooking ,gardening. how to buy a house, how to sell a house, how to clean a house.my idea of entertainment is not watching some ponce running round the kitchen ,or some silly cow cleaning a toilet

In Barry Norman's autobiography he says the Beeb became so large it was decided in the Thatcher years to put in a 'professional' management structure. Consequence being most were put on short term contracts so people did not make decisions for creative reasons but to keep their jobs.

Then in the Michael Grade years programmes were outsourced to inde production companies. They make the cheapest possible wide appeal programmes for the least money and get paid lots of licence fee money.

TV has really gone the past few years. [snip]

I've gone back to watching TV like everyone used to. Looking the the Radio Times to see if there's any good progs. And if nothing's on, do something else.

You only watch what you actually want to watch . I forgot what that was like

TV definitely needs to improve - and fast; I'm spending far too much time on the Internet these days doing things I shouldn't

You have to sift through a hell of a lot of chaff to even get a kernel of wheat but the quality programs are there, they're just eclipsed by the growing mountain of sh*te which is the scatter gun approach of "Yeah! lets make endless programs about antiques - our 65 - 80 daytime demographic love antiques". As a result you get 27 programs of the same basic format but varying degrees of arse.

IMO primetime TV is dumbed down for the masses with Ant and Dec as their gurning ringmasters who goad them to watch more retarded, inane games, if you want anything informative requiring slightly more than marginal intelligence then best of luck to you - you'll maybe get one program a day

Saturday nights on ITV, simply wonderful...if you are a dipstick with a mental deficiency. Tonight Matthew, I`m going to be a half-witted, look at me wannabee who has no original talent but on a foggy night at 10,000 paces, according to David Blunkett, look a bit like Cheryl Tweedy . Whatever happened to Drama. There are no Plays shown anymore, is it because of cost or are all proper actors dead or in the Theatre? We need programming that actually entertains and make us use our brains, rather than cheap, basic fodder for the hard of thinking.
